Renault accelerates India push with new platforms, multi-energy lineup

Renault Group in India is moving at the "speed of a high-speed train" to introduce products tailored to diverse customer demands, as part of its ambition to make India one of its top three global markets, according to CEO Stephane Deblaise.

Deblaise, speaking to PTI, said the company is laying the foundation to position itself strongly in India, with plans spanning native factory-fitted CNG, newer powertrains, next-generation digital and electronic architecture in the value segments, and extending through hybrids and electric vehicles. Despite being a relatively small player in India's passenger-vehicle market, he said Renault is making rapid changes given the country's potential.

"All our actions are happening as we want... This is completely happening at the speed of a high-speed train," Deblaise said.

From CMFA to new platforms: RGEP and RGMP

Renault, which previously offered models such as Kwid, Kiger, and Triber on its CMFA platform, is evolving into a new Renault Group Entry Platform (RGEP) to address customer expectations around native factory-fitted CNG, newer powertrains, and next-generation digital and electronic architecture.

For scale and electrification, the company is deploying the Renault Group Modular Platform (RGMP), which will drive the next phase of its growth in India while setting the foundation of its electrification strategy.

Product roadmap and market goals

Earlier this year, Renault announced plans to expand its Indian portfolio to seven multi-energy models by 2030, aiming to make India one of its top three global markets. Deblaise said that in the coming months Renault India will introduce a range of products with what he described as breakthrough technologies, including CNG underbodies, turbocharged engines, and hybrids "to satisfy customers" in India.

"Renault has understood that India is a key customer market with amazing engineering competencies," he stated.

The announcements come as the Indian auto market sees heightened competition, with other manufacturers also expanding their local lineups and investments.
