A Toddler's First Meeting with Goofy, with Matt Damon Watching
A family's special moment at Disneyland took an unexpected turn when they realized an A-list actor had been watching from a few feet away. Loryn Powell posted a video on Instagram Friday of her young daughter meeting Goofy at Goofy's Kitchen in the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim. In the clip, Matt Damon is seen standing a short distance away, arms folded and grinning, as the girl embraces the Disney character.
Powell's video shows her husband crouching beside their daughter as Goofy, in his chef uniform, approaches and greets them. The little girl excitedly waves before wrapping her arms around Goofy. While the family focused on the character, Damon quietly observed the interaction, dressed in a baseball cap, tan pants, and a button-up shirt.
"POV you're watching your husband and daughter meet Goofy for the first time but don't realize Matt Damon is also watching your husband and daughter meet Goofy for the first time," Powell wrote over the video. In the caption, she joked, "When your daughter is more starstruck by Goofy than Matt Damon 😆."
Some commenters on the video wondered whether the man in the background was really Damon, while others spotted a hat that appeared to read "Artists Equity," the production company co-founded by Damon and Ben Affleck.
A Magical First Visit
Powell told The California Post that the trip was their 2.5-year-old daughter's first time at Disneyland. "As you can tell we love dressing up for a good theme so taking our 2.5 year old daughter to Disneyland for her first time was magical," she said. "Even if Matt Damon hadn't been there," she added.
The video has drawn attention because of the coincidental celebrity sighting, but Powell's focus was clearly on her daughter's experience. The family appeared unaware of Damon's presence until reviewing the footage, making the moment all the more charming.
Damon's Own Disneyland Celebration
Damon, 55, was at Disneyland on Thursday to mark his daughter Gia's 18th birthday, according to Parade. The family wore matching "Birthday Crew" shirts and gathered in front of the Mickey Mouse pumpkin on Main Street, U.S.A. Photos showed Damon with his wife, Luciana Barroso, their daughters, and a group of relatives and friends.
Damon is a father of four daughters: Alexia, 27, Isabella, 20, Gia, 18, and Stella, 15. His family's matching shirts confirmed the birthday celebration, though it was not immediately clear whether Powell's video was taken during the same outing as the Damon family's visit.
In a separate interview last month, Damon told People that family dinner every night is non-negotiable, and that getting off phones is a challenge. He emphasized the importance of shared meals, a sentiment that resonates with the family-centered Disneyland moment captured in Powell's video.
Whether the two encounters happened on the same day remains unresolved, but the viral clip has provided a lighthearted look at how a beloved character can outshine even a Hollywood star in a toddler's eyes.
