Pajero Reveal Date Confirmed

Mitsubishi has confirmed it will reveal the Pajero 4WD on September 2, 2026, giving buyers their first official look at the much-anticipated model. The confirmation follows a report by Japanese magazine BestCar, which exposed the reveal date late last month via a dealer source.

Mitsubishi is expected to release more details about the Pajero at the reveal, including potentially initial pricing. The returning competitor to the Nissan Patrol and Toyota LandCruiser is scheduled to arrive in Australia later this year.

What to Expect from the New Pajero

According to details reported by The Canberra Times, the Pajero will be primarily based on Mitsubishi's Triton ute, riding on a sturdy ladder frame chassis. It is thought to employ a 2.4-litre twin-turbo four-cylinder petrol engine producing 150kW and 470Nm in the Triton, possibly matched with a six-speed automatic transmission. The vehicle is expected to feature Mitsubishi's rugged 'S-AWC' four-wheel drive system, which also appears on the Outlander PHEV and includes four-wheel braking and torque vectoring.

The Pajero is expected to be offered in the same four trim levels as the Triton: GLX, GLS, Exceed, and GSR. Mitsubishi has also revealed a digital revision of its iconic triple analogue instrument meters found on previous generations of the Pajero.

Buyers can expect firm launch information in the next few weeks, according to The Canberra Times.

Momentum 2030 Strategy Update

In a separate development, Mitsubishi outlined updated details regarding its 'Momentum 2030' business strategy, as reported by Yahoo News New Zealand. The plan includes expanding its U.S. product lineup from four to six models by 2027, re-entering the North American pickup truck segment, and launching its first battery-electric vehicle in the U.S. market.

The automaker presented the updated plan and future vehicle concepts to dealer partners during a private meeting in Franklin, Tennessee. The corporate roadmap focuses on four primary objectives: electrification, product lineup expansion, dealership model updates, and network sales growth.

Key upcoming models in the U.S. lineup include the Eclipse Sportback EV, an all-new battery-electric SUV scheduled to launch in late 2026; a rugged Outlander variant planned for the first quarter of 2027; and the continuation of the Outlander and Outlander PHEV as the brand's core crossover and plug-in hybrid. The Outlander Sport and Eclipse Cross will remain in the portfolio to cover entry-level and subcompact crossover segments.

Mitsubishi also announced its intention to re-enter the North American pickup truck segment by leveraging its partnership with Nissan. Specific specifications, platforms, and release timelines for the proposed truck were not disclosed.

Montero/Pajero Global Return

Globally, Mitsubishi confirmed the return of the Montero, known internationally as the Pajero. However, the company noted that no official decision has been made regarding whether the Montero will be sold in the United States.

Mark Chaffin, president and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors North America, said: "When we launched Momentum 2030, many questioned whether such an ambitious vision could be achieved. Today, that vision is taking shape. Mitsubishi Motors is fully committed, and the path forward for the U.S. market is clear."

Yahoo News New Zealand also noted that the electric car in the Momentum 2030 strategy is expected to be a version of the Nissan LEAF, though this detail was not officially confirmed by Mitsubishi.
