Since his surprisingly quick return four weeks later, he has a 2.00 ERA in nine turns, though this was just his third win during the span.
He’ll face the Reds on Sunday.
All of Pérez’s strengths and weaknesses were on display in this tantalizing start. His nine strikeouts matched a season-high and his 18 swings-and-misses were one shy of the same feat. He forced at least three whiffs with four different pitches and his whole repertoire looked nasty.
Yet, the command of his secondary stuff wavered here and he didn’t trust them enough in when he needed to. Case and point, three of the four runs he allowed came in the second inning.
He allowed three hits and a walk that frame and between all four plate appearances, he threw two combined breaking balls. Part of that is because some of those hitters were left-handed, but he went away from his changeup too quickly during a nine-pitch battle against Ozzie Albies that ended in a walk and started the rally.
Nevertheless, Pérez has been on a tear since coming off the injured list in late June with 49 strikeouts, 14 walks, and a 2.30 ERA across 47 innings.
He’s lined up for a two-start week coming up against the Pirates and Reds.
The 23-year-old right-hander piled up six strikeouts on the evening while issuing a pair of walks. He kept the Mets off the board through the first five innings until Francisco Lindor smacked an RBI single in the sixth. Lindor then scored later in the inning on an error.
Pérez generated 16 swings and misses on 97 offerings in the contest — five on his slider — while posting a CSW of 30 percent.
He’ll bring a 3.44 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and a 112/40 K/BB ratio (104 2/3 innings) into Wednesday’s matchup against the Braves in Atlanta.
Pérez tossed a scoreless first, stranded two runners in the second, then gave up a pair of runs on a walk, a hit batter, and two hits in the third. He settled in for three more scoreless frames before giving up one more run on a double and a sacrifice fly in the seventh.
Pérez would complete the seventh, marking three straight starts of at least six innings. The 23-year-old right-hander will take a 3.56 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, and a 106/38 K/BB ratio across 98 2/3 innings into a start against the Mets in New York on Thursday.
Pérez was on his way to getting the win, but Pete Fairbanks got in the way and allowed a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth.
It was still an excellent effort for the 23-year-old that saw him whiff nine batters and allow just one hit; two starts after he threw seven perfect innings against the A’s.

Obviously, posting just a six percent swinging strike rate isn’t what you’d like to see, and much of that came down to the command of his sweeper in two-strike counts. The velocity and movement of most of his pitches looked exactly like what we saw before the injury.
He did lose some extension on his secondaries, but that can change game-to-game based on the mound, so we wouldn’t read too much into that. His sinker command could have been better, and that’s something to look for in his next start, but he got up to 68 pitches in his one and should be back up over 80 pitches in his next start against the Rockies in Coors.
Braden Montgomery went 1-for-4 with a walk, a solo home run and two RBI against the Mets on Saturday.
Montgomery’s home run was his fifth of the season. He hit a solo shot off Christian Scott in the second inning. Montgomery got the day off Friday as he had been hitting .192 in his last 20 games. He returned with a big fly and a bases-loaded walk Saturday. Montgomery is hitting .235 with a .705 OPS and 32 RBI.
Bo Bichette went 2-for-5 with a solo home run against the White Sox on Saturday.
Bichette’s home run was his 14th of the season. He hit a solo shot off Luis Castillo in the third inning. Bichette’s slugging percentage is down more than 50 points since last year. His home run Saturday was his fourth in August after he failed to hit a big fly in July. Bichette is hitting .268 with a .712 OPS and 66 RBI.
Carson Benge went 3-for-5 with two runs, a solo home run, two RBI and a stolen base against the White Sox on Saturday.
Benge’s home run was his 16th of the season. He hit a solo shot off White Sox reliever Tyler Schweitzer in the fifth inning. Benge’s home run gives him five home runs in his last 16 games and he’s 22-for-63 (.349) with 12 RBI in that span. He’s hitting .276 with a .761 OPS and 53 RBI this year.

He’s been considerably better than that mark over the last two months, however, as he’s forged an OPS above .800 in both July and August. It’d be nice to see more consistency after he looked like such a ‘sure thing’ after his rookie season, but even this version of Merrill has his place.
Griffin Canning went 3 1/3 scoreless innings in relief against the Twins on Saturday.
Canning was able to keep the Twins off the board after Casey Mize had to exit his outing due to injury after just 2 1/3 frames. Canning wasn’t exactly dominant with just a single strikeout and four swings-and-misses generated, but kudos to him for keeping San DIego in the game long enough for them to comeback for the win. If Mize can’t go next week, it’s feasible Canning could get a start, though with any luck, the Padres will also be getting Joe Musgrove back next weekend.
Mason Miller fired a scoreless ninth to pick up a save against the Twins on Saturday.
Miller didn’t allow a hit and struck out a hitter while not issuing a walk. He’s now given up only one run in August, after giving up just one run in July after giving up, well, you get it. Miller has been nothing short of dominant in his first full season as the closer of the Padres, and is now up to 32 saves and down to a 0.83 ERA.
Dean Kremer limited the Padres on Saturday to two runs on three hits in 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision.
Kremer’s only blemishes were a homer by Jackson Merrill and a Xander Bogaerts single before the sixth, but he did give up a double and walk before exiting that frame. The right-hander’s velocity was slightly down; averaging 92.1 mph on his fastball compared to his usual 93, but he was able to command that offering and the rest of his arsenal exceptionally well in one of his best starts of 2026. Kremer has now pitched well in two of his last three starts, but it’s hard to trust him to replicate these results next weekend in a scheduled bout against the White Sox.
Brooks Lee went 3-for-4 and homered in a loss to the Padres on Saturday.
Lee hit one of three homers off Casey Mize before Mize exited due to injury, and he also doubled and singled. The former first-round selection has put together a solid -- albeit unspectacular -- season in 2026 with 19 homers, 68 RBI and a .729 OPS. Keep in mind that Lee is still just 25 until February, so there’s a chance that we haven’t seen the best version of the infielder just yet.
Luis Castillo allowed four runs in 2 2/3 innings and took the loss against the Mets on Saturday.
Castillo gave up eight hits, walked one and struck out three. He fell to 4-10 with the loss. Castillo has now allowed eight hits and four runs while failing to complete five innings in back-to-back starts since blanking the Reds for seven innings on August 12. Castillo has a 5.19 ERA. He’s lined up to face the Twins on the road next week as he tries to reverse his downward trend.
Jo Adell hit a three-run homer to help the Guardians to a 4-3 win over the Rockies on Saturday.
Saying Adell got all of his homer off Gabriel Hughes is an understatement. It traveled an estimated 450 feet to center, and it had an exit velocity of 113.8 mph. That gives him 20 home runs on the season, and it might surprise you that he’s been able to drive in 77 runs despite not exactly playing for the best offenses in baseball. Adell is a very flawed player, but a flawed player who can knock the stuffing out of a baseball here and there.

Outlets wrote at different times, so a figure that evolves — a casualty count, for example — can legitimately differ between rows; check the "as of" time next to each claim's source.
