Incident Overview
A 57-year-old man died in hospital after being rescued unconscious from a canal in Bukit Timah on the evening of Aug 23, according to reports from The Straits Times and Malay Mail.
The Singapore police said they received a call for assistance at Bukit Timah Canal at about 7.25pm that day. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted to a water rescue incident near the Wayang Satu Flyover at about 7.45pm, as reported by both outlets.
Rescue and Hospitalisation
When SCDF arrived, an unconscious person, identified by the police as a 57-year-old man, was seen floating in the canal. SCDF rescuers used a ladder to access the canal and brought the man to safety, according to statements from the force.
The man was taken in an unconscious state to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where he later died, the authorities said.
Police Investigation
Based on preliminary investigations, the police said they do not suspect foul play. Police investigations are ongoing.
Social Media Footage
The Straits Times reported that a video uploaded on social media platform Xiaohongshu showed police and SCDF vehicles parked on parts of the first and second lanes leading to the flyover. The video later shows a blue police tent on the first lane, with uniformed personnel standing near it.
