A 37-year-old man died in Holenarasipura town in Hassan district on Friday after a tractor ran over him, following an accident involving his three-year-old son, according to police reports.

The deceased was identified as Yashwanth , who worked at the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) depot in Arakalgud. He is survived by his wife and their three-year-old child.

According to police, the tractor, with its key left in the ignition, was parked on a street. A child climbed onto the vehicle and accidentally turned the key, causing it to move forward suddenly. Yashwanth, who was nearby, rushed to rescue his son but came under the tractor's wheels.

He suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital in the town, from where he was referred to Hassan district hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries on the way, police said.

The incident occurred at Kote Vokkaligara street in Holenarasipur town. Police said Yashwanth was getting a new house constructed and had brought centring materials in the tractor for RCC work on the day of the Varamahalakshmi festival.

Holenarasipura town police visited the spot and have registered a case based on a complaint by Yashwanth's brother.
