A Proclamation for the Group's Return

Los Angeles has officially declared Sept. 1-8 as "BTS Week" ahead of the K-pop group's four sold-out concerts at SoFi Stadium, according to the group's agency BigHit Music and the Los Angeles City Council. The designation marks the group's "Arirang" world tour stop in the city, with shows scheduled for Sept. 1, 2, 5 and 6.

The concerts mark BTS' return to SoFi Stadium nearly five years after its "Permission to Dance on Stage" performances there in late 2021, as reported by The Straits Times and The Korea Times. All four shows for the tour stop sold out quickly, the group's agency said.

As part of the tribute, Los Angeles illuminated its City Hall in red on Sept. 1, matching the key color associated with BTS' fifth studio album, "Arirang," in what officials described as an official welcome and gesture of friendship to the group and visiting fans, according to The Korea Times.

Official Ceremony and Mayoral Statement

A formal proclamation ceremony was held at Los Angeles City Hall on Aug. 31, attended by representatives from the City Council, the Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board and BigHit Music, as reported by The Straits Times. The Korea Times also reported the ceremony's attendance by members of the City Council, tourism officials and executives from BigHit Music.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said the designation reflects a belief in the power of arts and culture to foster mutual understanding and unite communities. "The proclamation of 'BTS Week' reflects our belief in the power of arts and culture to foster mutual understanding and connect communities," Bass said, as quoted by The Straits Times. "We are proud to honour the remarkable achievements of BTS, who have made significant contributions to global culture, and to celebrate their special connection with Los Angeles with people around the world."

City Council Resolution

The Los Angeles City Council described BTS as "one of the most influential artistes representing this generation," highlighting the group's role in expanding opportunities for Korean and Asian artistes in the global music industry, according to the resolution cited by The Straits Times. The council also cited BTS' efforts to connect audiences across languages, cultures and generations through messages of love and hope, as well as its "Love Myself" campaign with UNICEF and appearances at the United Nations, as reported by The Straits Times. The Korea Times similarly reported that the council praised how the group's messages — delivered through music, performances and campaigns promoting self-love and hope — have connected people across languages, cultures and generations while helping spread Korean culture worldwide.

Broader Tour Honors

The Los Angeles concerts will close the North American leg of BTS' ongoing "Arirang" world tour, as reported by The Straits Times. Similar honors have been granted at earlier stops on the tour: El Paso County in Texas, the state of Illinois and Toronto have designated "BTS Week" or "BTS Day" to commemorate the group's concerts, according to The Korea Times.
