Liverpool confirm Barcola signing

Liverpool have completed the signing of France international Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain, with the forward agreeing a five-year contract at Anfield. The 23-year-old joins the Premier League side as their fifth confirmed signing of the summer, following Victor Munoz, Jeremy Jacquet, Ronald Araujo and Ifeanyi Ndukwe.

The transfer fee has been reported at around £120 million, with figures varying between £120 million and £123 million in total value. India Today reported the deal at approximately £120 million (US $162 million), while SPORTbible put the fee at up to £123 million, made up of an initial £106 million plus £17 million in potential add-ons.

Barcola moved to PSG from Lyon in 2023 for a reported €45 million. During his three seasons in Paris, he made 152 appearances across competitions, scoring 39 goals and providing 37 assists. He helped PSG win consecutive Champions League titles, three Ligue 1 titles and two French Cups, and was part of France's squad for this year's World Cup.

Player reaction

Speaking to Liverpool's club media after the move was confirmed, Barcola said it was "a great pride to be able to play for Liverpool. I'm very happy."

The forward added: "It took a long time but I'm really happy today to be able to play for Liverpool and all I want is to be on the pitch and be able to play. I hope to achieve very big things. First of all, winning the Premier League – it's one of my biggest dreams in my life."

Barcola is described as having explosive pace, close control and an ability to take on defenders, and he becomes a significant addition to Liverpool's attack. His arrival follows increased competition for regular starts at PSG, whose forward line includes 2025 Ballon d'Or winner Ousmane Dembele, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Desire Doue.

Squad context and registration rules

Barcola's signing means Liverpool have now met the Premier League's 17-player limit for non-homegrown senior players, according to SPORTbible. Premier League clubs can register up to 25 senior players, but only 17 may be non-homegrown. A homegrown player is defined as someone registered with an English or Welsh club for at least three complete seasons before turning 21, with the player's development location, not nationality, being the key factor. Eligible Under-21 players sit outside this limit.

With the limit reached, any further non-homegrown signings this summer would require a player to leave the club. SPORTbible reported that players such as Ismalia Sarr, Yankuba Minteh or another winger linked with Anfield could still arrive if Cody Gakpo were to depart, with Gakpo reportedly the subject of interest from a rival club in a deal worth around £85 million. The report also noted that Giorgi Mamardashvili has been linked with a move to Nottingham Forest.

Liverpool have been active in the transfer market under new manager Andoni Iraola, who replaced Arne Slot. India Today reported that the club has invested approximately £400 million in new players this summer, with the squad also set to include Ronald Araujo on loan, plus Jeremy Jacquet, Victor Munoz, Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike, Cody Gakpo and Rio Ngumoha.

Barcola could make his debut on September 4 against Ipswich Town at Portman Road, according to SPORTbible. Liverpool drew 2-2 with Nottingham Forest in their latest match and next play away to Ipswich Town on Friday.
