Arrest in Akkar

Lebanese security forces on Sunday arrested a prominent social media influencer known for his food videos, in a raid on his home in the northern Akkar governorate. The influencer, Georges Dib, appears as "Doctor Food" on TikTok, where his food channel has more than 8.5 million followers. He also runs a confectionery business selling branded sweets and pastries.

The arrest was confirmed by Lebanon's Internal Security Forces, which said they had conducted the raid. According to a judicial source speaking on condition of anonymity, Dib would be taken to a detention centre in Mount Lebanon to face a new trial on further drug trafficking charges.

Background: drugs accusations and seizure

The case against Dib dates back to 2024, when a Lebanese judge, Ziad Al Daghidi, issued an arrest warrant relating to "manufacturing, trafficking and smuggling drugs abroad". The warrant was issued after authorities seized sweets and other food products at Beirut's Rafic Hariri International Airport. The state-run National News Agency reported that the packages contained narcotics and were manufactured in factories owned by Dib. They were intended for export to a Gulf country. A Syrian suspect was also being sought in connection with the seized goods.

Dib has continued posting videos on TikTok despite the arrest warrant and, according to reports last month, a life sentence handed down in absentia. In one video last month, he denied the accusations and urged his followers not to listen to what was being said about him.

Surveillance and arrest

The Internal Security Forces said that their two warrants were out against the influencer, and that the arrest followed a month of surveillance. In an announcement they described how Dib would regularly change the vehicles and phone numbers he used, apparently to avoid detection, but that investigative efforts led to his capture.

Personal life and social media

Dib gained fame not only for his food videos but also for his personal life. He married Shrouq Sunshine, a fellow TikTok personality who posts under that name and has almost twice his following. The couple shared content about cooking and daily life. They separated after she accused him of abuse. On Saturday, the day before Dib's arrest, Shrouq Sunshine's Instagram account shared images of a "divorce party" marking the end of the relationship. In a recent online post, Dib appeared to respond to the allegations, claiming he had "documents and evidence" he could present in court.
