Denis Bouanga's curling 79th-minute strike rescued Los Angeles FC in a 1-1 draw against the Portland Timbers at BMO Stadium on Saturday night.

Portland struck first, David Da Costa converting a Kristoffer Velde pass in the fourth minute for his third goal of the season. LAFC pushed for an equalizer, holding a 34-9 advantage in shot count, and finally broke through when Bouanga collected the ball from Jude Terry, drove between two defenders and placed his 11th goal of the season into the top corner.

The Timbers twice had a man sent off inside the closing moments — forward Vincent Janssen was shown a second yellow in third-minute stoppage time — and goalkeeper James Pantemis made 10 saves for Portland, who left the match with a point.

The result stretched LAFC ='s winless streak in MLS league matches to four, though the club maintained the conference's third spot, five points behind the leading Vancouver Whitecaps. Hugo Jorris retorted one attempt for the hosts.
