Karnataka Education Minister Launches New KPS Building in Shivamogga
Karnataka Primary and Secondary Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa laid the foundation stone for a new Karnataka Public School (KPS) building in Shivamogga district, an initiative funded under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme of Ajax Engineering Charitable Trust. The construction is estimated to cost Rs 13.5 crore.
The event was jointly organised by the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, Department of School Education and Literacy, Shivamogga Ajax Engineering Limited, and Ajax Engineering Charitable Trust.
KPS Aims to Offer Education from LKG to Class 12 in Kannada and English
Speaking on the occasion, Bangarappa described Karnataka Public Schools as an ambitious project of the state government, designed to provide quality education from LKG to Class 12 (II PUC) under one roof, in both Kannada and English mediums. He highlighted the importance of the day for his department, noting that several key programmes are being undertaken to shape a better future for children.
The Minister also referenced the concept of “Namma Shaale Namma Javabdhari” (Our School, Our Responsibility), under which the government is prioritising the development of schools with community participation. He urged people to develop a mindset that gives more importance to the development of schools than to temples, emphasising the significant responsibility of the Education Department in shaping the future of children.
35 KPS Schools Planned in Shivamogga District
According to the Minister, 11 KPS schools are already functioning successfully in Shivamogga district, and 24 more have been sanctioned with assistance from the Asian Development Bank. Work is currently underway to establish a total of 35 KPS schools in the district.
At the state level, a project has been taken up under CSR funds to develop 1,000 Karnataka Public Schools across Karnataka.
The new building, supported by Ajax Engineering Charitable Trust, will include 35 well-equipped classrooms, toilets, and an Akshara Dasoha Bhavan. The target is to complete construction within two years and hand over the facility to the Education Department.
