Kinistino Winner Takes Home Refurbished Mini Cooper
A Kinistino resident named Porter has won a 2008 Mini Cooper as the grand prize in Beach Radio’s Summer Free Ride contest, according to reports from paNOW and saskNOW. Porter has not yet planned a longer road trip in the vehicle but shared one immediate idea for its first outing. “Maybe we’ll have to go for a little tour through Kinistino tonight,” she said.
From Edmonton Summer Car to Contest Prize
The Mini Cooper began as a red model with a white roof. Westview Steering & Brake purchased the car from a man in Edmonton who had used it as a summer vehicle. Despite its 2008 model year, the car was described as being in great condition with relatively low mileage. It then received a full makeover for the contest, including a new cosmic purple paint job, a black roof and tinted rear windows.
Upgrades and Additional Summer Prizes
Beyond the exterior refresh, the grand prize package includes an upgraded sound system, a remote starter, WeatherTech floor mats, seat covers and a brand-new windshield. Porter also receives a set of summer-oriented extras: a Traeger BBQ, a $500 meat pack, a Yeti cooler and an inflatable paddleboard.
Contest Draws Strong Local Interest
Pattison Media Retail Sales Supervisor Jocelyn Bovay said the Summer Free Ride contest attracted plenty of attention this year. Beach Radio made 77 stops at businesses and community events over three months, generating approximately 13,000 entries. “It’s the perfect sporty, summer car to cruise around in, which I think made it such a hit this year,” Bovay said. She added that the contest would not have been possible without the businesses that contributed to the vehicle and prize package.
Beach Radio thanked a group of sponsors that helped make the event possible, among them Westview Steering & Brake, R&W Custom Collision, TR Spring & Align, Ben’s Auto & House Glass, Evergreen Nissan, Fresh Air Experience and Wicks Detail, along with additional local partners.
Looking Ahead to Next Year
Beach Radio has already begun planning for next year’s contest, with ideas in development to make the 2027 version even bigger. In the meantime, listeners can enter the station’s $25K Giveaway, which offers a chance to win a shopping spree at participating local sponsors, with entries available through the Beach Radio website.
