Kia is set to launch the India-spec Sorento on September 4, 2026, according to reports from India TV News and Times Now. The SUV will be offered with two powertrain options: a strong-hybrid and a diesel. This marks Kia's first hybrid and its first three-row internal combustion engine SUV for India, as reported by both outlets.
The hybrid version will come with all-wheel drive, a combination that Times Now notes is not offered on any other Kia currently sold in India. The diesel variant has been confirmed, though full specifications for both powertrains are yet to be officially detailed, according to Times Now.
Pre-bookings are already open, and production has begun at Kia's Anantapur facility in Andhra Pradesh, as reported by India TV News and Times Now.
Hybrid and Diesel Specifications: What to Expect
While Kia India has not released final India-spec numbers, both outlets have reported expected figures based on global models. India TV News reports the hybrid will use a 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor, producing 238hp and 380Nm with all-wheel drive. The diesel version, according to India, is a 2.0-litre unit making 202hp and 441Nm—the same engine as the Kia Carnival.
Times Now, however, speculates the hybrid will use a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine with an electric motor, delivering roughly 234.7 hp and 380 Nm sent through an eCVT. The diesel is expected to be a 2.2-litre unit producing around 199 hp and 441 Nm, paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic and front-wheel drive only.
These figures are not yet officially confirmed, and the two organizations report different predicted outputs for both engines, with IndiaTV presenting them as definitive while Times Now labels them as expected. Notably, neither outlet has corroborated the other's specific numbers, so the discrepancies remain.
The hybrid variant will include all-wheel drive as standard, according to both sources. Times Now reports the diesel will be front-wheel drive only, though this is not officially confirmed.

The India-spec Sorento is based on the 2023 global model's design, according to India TV News. It does not use Kia's newer 'Opposites United' styling.
