A Life-Changing Scratch-Off

A 58-year-old Kent County woman has won $1 million playing the Michigan Lottery's $1,000,000 Bonus Scratch Multiplier, according to the Michigan Lottery. The woman, who chose to remain anonymous, purchased her winning ticket at Aikan Liquor, located at 1640 44th St. SE in Kentwood.

She told the Michigan Lottery that she buys a lottery ticket almost every day, typically from different stores. She scratched the ticket when she got home and screamed when she realized she'd won one of the game's top prizes.

"I screamed so loud that I scared my son!" she said.

The winner described the news as a relief, saying, "It is such a relief to win a big prize like this. It means no more stress and is going to make life easier. It will also allow my son and I to have a little fun!"

Prize Payment and Plans

When she claimed her prize, the woman opted to receive a one-time lump-sum payment of about $693,000 rather than annuity payments for the full amount, as reported by both the Detroit Free Press and M Live Michigan. M Live Michigan also reported that she plans on saving her winnings.

The $1,000,000 Bonus Scratch Multiplier game launched with three $1 million top prizes, and two of those prizes remain unclaimed, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Context: Recent Michigan Jackpot Winners

M Live Michigan noted that the last players from Michigan to win a Mega Millions or Powerball jackpot were the Breakfast Club lottery club, which claimed an $842 million jackpot in June 2024. The club members planned to use the money to buy a home in Florida and travel.
