Keith Urban fought back tears while performing his song 'We Go Back' at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City on Friday night, an emotional moment that has drawn attention amid rumors that his ex-wife Nicole Kidman is dating someone new.

Urban, 58, introduced the song with a spoken story about a couple from a small town. "This song is about a guy and a girl growing up in a small town," he told the crowd, adding, "They were the first of their friends to fall in love. They had a good thing going, until the guy screwed it up. I will do that."

He continued, describing how "years and years go by" before the pair reunite. "This guy can't believe it. He sees the girl, she looks exactly the same. They start talking, they are getting along great. She tells him she's got somebody else," he said, according to both Page Six and The News International.

The song's chorus includes the lyrics: "I know I never should have let you go. I was young and dumb, and I messed it all up bad. You tell me that it's too late now, 'cause there's somebody new around. But what we've got is the one thing you'll never have. We go back."

During the performance, Urban was seen wiping away tears while smiling and crouching on stage. "This is why we keep coming back to Atlantic City," he told the crowd.

The song is from Urban's album 'Flow State', which debuted in June, five months after his divorce from Kidman was finalized. Urban and Kidman announced their separation in September 2025, with a source telling Page Six that Kidman "did not want the separation and was trying to save things." Kidman filed for divorce on Sept. 30, citing "irreconcilable differences," and the divorce was finalized in January, with both parties waiving child and spousal support.

The couple married in 2006 after meeting at the G'Day USA gala in January 2005. They share daughters Sunday, 18, and Faith, 15. Kidman also shares Bella, 33, and Connor, 31, with her first husband, Tom Cruise.

Timing and Rumors

The performance came as Kidman sparked romance rumors with businessman Michael Reinstein after they were spotted together in Portofino, Italy last month. A month before that sighting, Page Six exclusively confirmed that Kidman was single.

The News International noted that the story of an ex-lover moving on raised eyebrows given the timing, but emphasized that Urban "did not suggest" the song was about his and Kidman's love story. Kidman has not publicly commented on the reports.

Differing Reports on Urban's Reaction

Coverage of Urban's emotional state has varied. A source told New Idea that Urban was "absolutely devastated" by news of Kidman's alleged relationship. In contrast, another insider told the Daily Mail that Urban was "relieved that she's moved on" after feeling guilty for ending the marriage.

Urban himself has faced rumors of romantic involvements with singer Karley Scott Collins and his guitarist Maggie Baugh, though both women have denied the speculation.

Neither Page Six nor The News International reported that Urban explicitly linked his performance to Kidman, leaving the connection between his tears and her reported romance a matter of speculation.
