KBO Sets New First-Half Attendance Record, Surpasses 8 Million Fans
The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) has announced a new first-half attendance record for the 2026 season. According to Yonhap News, the league drew 7,633,775 fans through 424 games as of Thursday, July 9, surpassing the previous first-half record of 7,580,228 fans set in 440 games in 2025. The announcement came as the KBO wrapped up its schedule before the annual All-Star break.
The record-setting pace continued over the following week. On Sunday, July 19, the KBO reported that total attendance for the season had reached 8,007,967 after five games played nationwide. The league reached the 8 million mark in 443 games, beating the previous record of 465 games from the 2025 season. This milestone followed the earlier achievement of surpassing 7 million fans on June 30, when attendance reached 7,013,844 after 388 games—breaking the previous record of 405 games from 2025.
The KBO has been breaking attendance records throughout the season. The league cleared every million milestone in record-breaking pace this year. It needed only 55 games to go from 7 million to 8 million, breaking the record of 60 games set in 2025. Earlier, it took just 13 days and 54 games to go from 6 million to 7 million, both new records.
Teams are averaging 18,077 fans per game, up from 16,809 fans per game at the same point last season, according to the KBO. The league also reported that eight of its 10 clubs have seen year-on-year increases in average home attendance. Even the two clubs with declines, the Hanwha Eagles and the Lotte Giants, saw their figures fall by only a few hundreds.
The KBO set a single-season attendance record in 2025 with just over 12.3 million fans and remains on pace to top that mark this year. The league has also seen a high number of sellouts: 241 so far this year, putting the previous record of 331 set last year in jeopardy. The KBO will take an All-Star break from Friday to next Wednesday, a pause that may temporarily slow the record-breaking momentum.
