Kareena Kapoor on Daayra vs Vibe clash: 'Both films are going to do very well'

Kareena Kapoor dismisses clash concerns, backs both Daayra and Vibe

Speaking at the trailer launch of her upcoming crime thrillerDaayra in Mumbai on Monday, Kareena Kapoor addressed the box-office clash between her film andVibe, written and directed by her brother-in-law Kunal Kemmu. Both films are scheduled to release on September 18.

Asked how she felt about the direct competition, Kapoor praised Kemmu's talent and predicted success for both films. She said, "I think Kunal is an outstanding actor. One of the best we have in our industry. No one does comic timing like Kunal. I feel there's place in cinema for two great films, two wonderful films. And I know Vibe is going to do well. It's going to be fun, it's going to be comedy. And people are going to see a different side to Kunal."

Kapoor added, "May the gold come to my house only (laughs). So I'm very happy and I'm very, very sure that both films are going to do very well."

The two films

Daayra, directed by Meghna Gulzar, is a crime thriller starring Kareena Kapoor and Prithviraj Sukumaran in lead roles. Inspired by true events, the film explores the complex relationship between crime, justice, and punishment. Kapoor plays DCP Ajooni Kohli, while Sukumaran plays DCP Raman Kumar, whose character is at the centre of a gang-rape investigation. The film marks the first on-screen collaboration between Kapoor and Sukumaran. It is produced by Junglee Pictures and Dr Jayantilal Gada's Pen Studios.

Vibe, written and directed by Kunal Kemmu, is an action-comedy featuring Kemmu alongside Preity Zinta. The story follows two hapless friends who accidentally stumble upon a terrorist plot, finding themselves thrust into a dangerous situation they are unprepared for.

Outlook for September 18

The simultaneous release ofDaayra andVibe sets up a direct box-office contest between the two films. WhileDaayra offers a gritty crime drama headlined by two established stars,Vibe presents a lighter, comedic entertainer. Kapoor's remarks reflect confidence that the distinct genres will allow both films to find their audiences.

Produced by Junglee Pictures and Dr Jayantilal Gada's Pen Studios,Daayra is directed by Meghna Gulzar and marks the first on-screen collaboration between Kareena Kapoor and Prithviraj Sukumaran. The film is slated for release on September 18.
