A viral gym video sparks speculation
A video of Bollywood actor Kareena Kapoor Khan leaving a gym in Mumbai on August 21 went viral, prompting some social media users to speculate that she was expecting her third child with husband Saif Ali Khan. The footage showed Kapoor walking to her car while a member of her team held an umbrella in front of her, a detail that amplified online discussion, as reported by multiple outlets including Free Press Journal, Hindustan Times, and NewsX.
The speculation was not based on any announcement from the couple, and no confirmed pregnancy announcement has been made. Reports subsequently indicated that Kapoor's team dismissed the claims, though this detail was carried by a single outlet.
Kapoor's light-hearted reaction
On August 22, Kapoor was spotted in Mumbai again, dressed in a butter-yellow shirt and black trousers. As she posed for photographers, one paparazzo appeared to apologise for the viral video. Kapoor smiled and responded, "Pagal kar dete ho tumlog," which roughly translates to "You guys drive me crazy" or "You guys drive us mad," depending on the translation. The exchange was captured in videos shared by several outlets, including Hindustan Times and NewsX.
Kapoor also appeared to laugh off the rumours on social media. She re-shared a post by celebrity hair and makeup artist Mitesh Rajani, which showed him displaying a bloated stomach in a mirror selfie, with the song "Chocolate Lime Juice" from Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! playing in the background. Kapoor added laughing and pizza emojis, a post that The Times of India interpreted as a suggestion that food, not pregnancy, was behind the much-discussed appearance. Free Press Journal noted the emojis, including a laughing face and a pizza slice, seemingly hinting that pizza during a recent holiday could explain the look. Mashable also interpreted the post as a joke about a "food baby."
Sister-in-law Saba Pataudi weighs in
Kapoor's sister-in-law, jewellery designer Saba Pataudi, had already addressed the speculation on social media before Kapoor's own response. In a widely quoted post, Pataudi wrote: "A bad angle ... Or a bad hair day! How can everyone assume another extreme!! She walked out of an airport looking slick, classy and slim, and today out of a gym! That's it!! I've been convincing my sister to have a 2nd child ... wish that was true! She'll kill me for saying it! Live n let live guys. Some things are left private. No speculation needed. With love n respect."
The full quote was carried by Hindustan Times and The Times of India, with Mashable and NewsX also reporting that Pataudi urged people not to jump to conclusions and to respect Kapoor's privacy.
A familiar pattern
NewsX noted that this is not the first time Kapoor has faced such speculation. In 2022, similar rumours prompted her to joke that pasta and wine were responsible, while cautioning that assumptions about a woman's body or pregnancy should not be made.
In a separate, lighter episode, Times Now reported that Pataudi received a direct message from an Instagram user named 'deny3232_' claiming to be a fitness trainer. Pataudi shared a screenshot of the DM on her Instagram story, jokingly asking whether the trainer wanted to train her or be introduced to Kapoor, given the actor's recent gym visit.
Personal and professional background
Kapoor married actor Saif Ali Khan in October 2012. The couple has two sons: Taimur Ali Khan, born in 2016, and Jehangir Ali Khan, born in 2021. Kapoor has previously said that her children are not interested in acting and are more inclined towards sports, a comment reported by Hindustan Times.
On the work front, Kapoor will next appear in Meghna Gulzar's Daayra, opposite Prithviraj Sukumaran. The film, produced by Junglee Pictures and Pen Studios, is scheduled for a theatrical release on September 18, 2026, according to Times Now and Mashable. Kapoor's last big-screen outing was Singham Again with Ajay Devgn in 2024, and Sukumaran was recently seen in Vysakh's Khalifa, both details reported by Times Now.
