A father-daughter duo from Alampur in Kangra district has achieved a rare academic feat: they completed their three-year Bachelor of Laws (LLB) course together and finished among the top three in the Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) examination. Anshika Rana, 23, topped the LLB examination, while her father, Praveen Rana, secured the third position, as reported by The Times of India and The Tribune.
Praveen Rana, an inspector at the Himachal Pradesh Police Training Centre in Daroh, returned to academics after crossing 50, a decision that became even more meaningful when his daughter joined him in pursuing law. The two enrolled at HPU's Regional Centre in Dharamsala in 2023 for the three-year course, which they completed in June. Anshika was a regular student, while Praveen opted for correspondence mode to balance his studies with his job, according to The Times of India.
Balancing duty and academics
The Tribune noted that Praveen, despite his demanding duties in the police department, continued his law studies and regularly devoted time to academics. The university declared the results of the sixth and final semester recently, bringing their journey to a successful conclusion.
The father-daughter duo attended classes together and encouraged each other throughout the course. "We motivated each other during the course and celebrated each other's achievements," Anshika said, as quoted by The Tribune. Praveen echoed the sentiment, saying that age should never become a barrier to education. "If a person has determination and a clear goal, a new beginning can be made at any stage of life," he said, according to the same report.
The achievement has drawn appreciation from family members, friends, and residents of the area, as well as from an educationist who called it an example of perseverance, mutual encouragement, and the importance of continuing to learn irrespective of age or professional responsibilities, The Tribune reported.
