A Surprise Return to the Stage
Don Toliver's concert in Miami on Aug. 22 became an unexpected moment for fans when Justin Timberlake made a surprise appearance. According to Deadline, the Grammy winner joined Toliver during his Octane World Tour, entering from upstage to perform his 2002 hit 'Rock Your Body.' Rolling Stone reported that Timberlake also performed 'Body,' Toliver's single that samples the earlier track, at Kaseya Arena.
Timberlake shared highlights from the cameo on Instagram, where his post began with 'I just wanted to watch the show from the VIP,' followed by a SpongeBob title card reading 'a few moments later,' as Deadline noted.
A Long Hiatus
The Miami appearance marked Timberlake's first performance in over a year. Rolling Stone reported that his last onstage performance was on July 30, 2025, when his Forget Tomorrow world tour concluded in Istanbul, Turkey. Deadline noted that before Miami, Timberlake had last performed at the Recording Academy Honors in January, an event honoring collaborator Pharrell Williams.
Timberlake's time away from the stage was shaped by health challenges. In July 2025, he revealed that he had been dealing with health issues, including Lyme disease—news he shared as he was wrapping up the tour. Rolling Stone detailed that the tour itself faced postponements and cancellations due to injury, 'some kind of bug,' laryngitis, bronchitis, and a 'debilitating' Lyme disease diagnosis.
Timberlake's Own Words
Both outlets quoted Timberlake's statements about his health and decision to continue performing. In an Instagram post, he wrote, 'Living with this can be relentlessly debilitating, both mentally and physically.' He also explained, 'When I first got the [Lyme disease] diagnosis, I was shocked for sure. But, at least I could understand why I would be onstage and in a massive amount of nerve pain or, just feeling crazy fatigue or sickness.'
He went on to describe his choice to keep touring: 'I was faced with a personal decision. Stop touring? Or, keep going and figure it out. I decided the joy that performing brings me far outweighs the fleeting stress my body was feeling. I'm so glad I kept going.'
Rolling Stone offered additional context, noting that the Forget Tomorrow world tour took place after Timberlake's June 2024 DWI arrest. In its coverage of the Miami show, the outlet observed that after a year offstage and largely out of the spotlight, Timberlake appeared to have recuperated and was ready to perform once again.
