Iran's Revolutionary Guards Claim Attacks on US Sites in Kuwait, Jordan, Bahrain
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed responsibility for a series of attacks on US military sites in Kuwait, Jordan, and Bahrain, according to Iranian state media. The attacks, reported on Saturday morning, targeted US ammunition stores, communication assets, and other installations.
In Kuwait, sirens sounded early Saturday as drones targeted US ammunition stores and communication assets at Ali Al Salem Air Base, alongside other installations, according to a statement from Kuwaiti Army forces. A fire reportedly broke out at a power generation and water desalination plant, as stated by Kuwait's Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy Ministry, which added that several power generation units were shut down and efforts were ongoing to contain the fire and carry out repairs. The Kuwait Fire Force later reported that firefighters and workers sustained injuries while responding to fires caused by the Iranian attacks.
The IRGC, in its statement claiming responsibility for the Kuwait attack, warned that countries hosting US forces should expect "corresponding responses" if their territory is used for attacks on Iran, as reported by the IRGC-linked Tasnim news agency.
The IRGC also claimed to have targeted US military assets at the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base and the Al-Azraq Base in Jordan. Jordanian authorities reported that their forces intercepted a total of ten Iranian ballistic missiles and four drones.
In a separate statement, Jordan said on Monday that it shot down four missiles launched by Iran, according to the state-run Petra news agency. "The incident resulted in zero casualties or material damage," Petra quoted the Jordanian military as saying. Iran earlier had claimed an attack targeting Jordan, which hosts US military forces. Bahrain and Kuwait also came under attack from Iran on Monday morning, according to reports.
The attacks come in retaliation for American strikes around the Strait of Hormuz, as stated by the IRGC. The precise details of the attacks and the extent of damage remain unclear, with varying accounts from different sources. The IRGC's claim of launching missiles against a US base in Jordan and 21 other targets in the Gulf has not been independently verified.
No group has yet taken responsibility for the attacks beyond the IRGC's claims, and it remains uncertain whether further retaliatory actions will follow.
