Investigation underway after man's body found in Co Cavan
Gardaí have launched an investigation following the discovery of a man's body at a property in Co Cavan at the weekend. The man, who was in his 60s, was found dead at a property in Ballyjamesduff on Saturday, as reported by RTÉ.
According to The Journal, the deceased has been named locally as Eugene 'Chris' Murray, a married father of one who was wheelchair-bound after recently having a leg amputated. The Journal reports that his body was discovered at his home in the Kilmore estate in Ballyjamesduff on Saturday evening, 15 August.
His body was removed to Our Lady's Hospital in Navan, where a post-mortem examination was carried out. Gardaí have not released the results of the examination, citing operational reasons, as reported by both RTÉ and The Journal. A spokesperson for the Gardaí told The Journal that investigators are examining "all of the circumstances" surrounding the death.
A Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed to lead the investigation, and an incident room has been established at Bailieborough Garda Station, according to both outlets. The Journal adds that a decision on the direction of the probe is expected in the coming days.
The Journal also reports that a technical examination of the scene has been completed and that additional gardaí attended the property on Tuesday when a number of searches were carried out.
Gardaí are appealing for information, specifically asking any road users or pedestrians who were in the area of the Kilmore Estate between 6pm and midnight on Saturday and who may have camera footage, including dashcam, to come forward. This appeal was carried by both RTÉ and The Journal.
