Russian forces carried out a massive overnight strike on July 30, hitting airfields, military telecommunication and logistics centers in Kiev, Lvov, and five other regions of Ukraine, the Russian Defense Ministry reported, as carried by TASS. The ministry said the strikes used high-precision long-range weapons of land, air, and sea basing, as well as strike unmanned aerial vehicles, targeting military airfields, defense industry enterprises, and logistics centers.

Coverage Comparison

The Russian state news agency TASS provided three reports on the strikes. Two focused on the overnight attack on July 30 and a later coordinated strike on August 11. The third report detailed the strategic importance of two specific plants struck in Lvov, citing Ukrainian government documents.

In the July 30 report, TASS compiled the Defense Ministry's statements, listing targets in Kiev, Lvov, and the Ivano-Frankovsk, Zhitomir, Rovno, Vinnitsa, and Dnepropetrovsk regions. The ministry said these facilities were used in the production, storage, and delivery of missile weapons and UAVs, as well as in ensuring the operation of the air situation control system. In addition, Russian forces struck a dry cargo ship in the port of Yuzhny and two dry cargo ships east and south of Odessa, which were delivering weapons and military equipment.

The second TASS report, dated August 11, described a coordinated overnight strike targeting defense industry facilities and transport and logistics centers in Kiev and Zaporozhye. The ministry stated that the strike used ground-based precision-guided weapons, destroying military-industrial facilities and logistics centers. Targets included a Nova Post logistics terminal in Kiev, the Kiev-3 transport and logistics center, and the Zaporozhstal steel mill.

The third TASS report focused on two Lvov plants, the Lvov Aircraft Repair Plant LDARZ and the LORTA plant, which were struck by Russian forces. According to TASS, these plants were of strategic importance for Ukraine's economy and security, as evidenced by Ukrainian government documents obtained by the agency. Both plants were added to the list of strategic enterprises in 2015.

Context

The Russian Defense Ministry's statements, as reported by TASS, attributed the strikes to Ukrainian militarization with Western support. The ministry noted that the targeted facilities were used in the production, storage, and delivery of missile weapons and UAVs, as well as ensuring the operation of the air situation control system. Ukrainian government documents, cited by TASS, indicated that the Lvov Aircraft Repair Plant and LORTA plant were added to the list of strategic enterprises in 2015, when Ukraine embarked on a course of militarization with Western support.
