Release and Conviction

Israel Flores Ortiz, a 19-year-old convicted of assaulting nine girls at Fairfax High School in Virginia, was released from jail on Monday, the Fairfax County Detention Center told 7News. He was released from custody at 11:40 , with the release cited as "sentenced served." The original release date had been scheduled for Sept. 3, 2026.

Flores Ortiz was found guilty of assaulting nine girls, according to both The Gateway Pundit and WJLA. He had faced up to nine years in prison but received a sentence of 360 days, with time served leaving 135 days, as reported by The Gateway Pundit. WJLA reported he got less than six months in jail.

Incident at Fairfax High School

Flores Ortiz, who was in the 11th grade at the time, was accused of groping girls in the school's hallways. A mother told 7News that about 12 individuals reported the assault, all perpetrated by a single stranger who approached the girls from behind and put his hand between their legs. The mother said the incidents had been occurring for several months.

A ninth-grade victim told WJLA that she constantly looks over her shoulder because she fears being groped again. Flores Ortiz was charged with nine counts of assault and battery, a misdemeanor, and was not charged with sexual assault.

Immigration Status and Detainer

Flores Ortiz is from El Salvador and crossed the southern border in 2024, according to ICE, which said he was released into the country during the Biden Administration. The Gateway Pundit reported that ICE told WJLA reporter Nick Minock that Flores Ortiz illegally entered the US on "Joe Biden's open border invitation."

ICE had issued a detainer against Flores Ortiz, but the Fairfax County Sheriff's Office had not said whether it would honor it, as reported by WJLA. The Department of Homeland Security confirmed on Monday that Fairfax County officials transferred Flores Ortiz to ICE custody, according to The Gateway Pundit.

Reactions and Deportation

A DHS statement called the sentencing "nothing more than a slap on the wrist" and said the "adult criminal illegal alien should NOT have been attending a Virginia high school and allowed to prey on innocent teenage girls," as quoted by The Gateway Pundit. DHS called on Governor Spanberger and "sanctuary politicians" not to release the "sexual predator," and ICE said it stands ready to arrest Flores Ortiz if Governor Spanberger releases him, according to The Gateway Pundit.
