Hyundai Motor Group said Friday it will invest 42 trillion won (US$27.3 billion) over the next decade to establish next-generation mobility and physical artificial intelligence (AI) hubs in South Korea's southeastern region, according to Yonhap News.

The investment plan was unveiled by Hyundai Motor Group Vice Chairman Jang Jae-hoon during a public briefing presided over by President Lee Jae Myung in the southeastern city of Jinju, as part of the government's mega project centered on semiconductors, physical AI and AI data centers, Yonhap reported.

Coverage Comparison

Yonhap's coverage focused on both the corporate investment plan and the broader government initiative. One article detailed the conglomerates' combined investments in the southeastern Yeongnam region, including Hyundai's specific pledge. A second article provided deeper insight into Hyundai's project scope, highlighting the transformation of the Gyeongsang region – also known as Yeongnam – into a hub for autonomous vehicles, AI-powered manufacturing, and future aerospace technologies.

The announcements come under President Lee Jae Myung's tripolar mega projects, which aim to advance technologies across the country and position South Korea as an industrial powerhouse in the emerging AI era, following similar announcements for the southwestern and central regions earlier this week, according to the Ministry of Finance and Economy.
