Record August for Hyundai Motor India

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) reported total sales of 65,796 units in August 2026, an 8.8% year-on-year increase, according to a company statement. The total comprised domestic sales of 54,396 units, up 23.6% from the same month last year, and exports of 11,400 units. HMIL said the domestic figure was its highest-ever for any August.

Tarun Garg, Managing Director and CEO of Hyundai Motor India, commented on the performance, saying the company continues to sustain strong growth momentum in the current financial year. He noted that domestic sales grew by 12.6% year-on-year during the April-August period of FY2027.

Domestic growth driven by product portfolio

Garg attributed the record August domestic sales to the popularity of Hyundai's product range, describing the figure as a reflection of customer demand for the company's versatile portfolio. The automaker said its vehicles continued to attract strong customer demand in the domestic market during the month.

The strong domestic performance helped offset challenges in the export segment, which remained under pressure from external factors.

Exports impacted by West Asia conflict

HMIL reported exports of 11,400 units in August, with Garg noting that total exports were impacted by logistical constraints arising from the ongoing conflict in West Asia and the broader geopolitical environment during the month.

The company's export challenges are not new. In the first quarter of the current fiscal year, shipments fell 19.6% to 38,708 units, compared with 48,140 units in the same period last year. HMIL attributed that decline to the West Asia conflict and a temporary production disruption caused by a fire at supplier Mobis's facility.

Despite the recent export pressures, Garg expressed optimism about future performance. "We remain optimistic that export demand will continue to be strong in the coming months as the geopolitical situation improves," he said.

Outlook

HMIL has maintained its full-year growth guidance of 8-10%, according to the company. With domestic sales at record levels and expectations of export recovery, the automaker appears positioned to continue its growth trajectory in the Indian market.
