AUM Milestone
HSBC Mutual Fund's RedHex Hybrid Long-Short Fund has crossed Rs 1,000 crore in assets under management (AUM) within two months of its listing, according to the fund house. The Specialised Investment Fund (SIF) strategy, launched in June 2026, had around 1,950 unique investor folios as of August 25, as reported by CNBC TV18 and The Economic Times.
The fund invests across fixed income, equity arbitrage, real estate investment trusts (REITs) and infrastructure investment trusts (InvITs), and is benchmarked against the NIFTY 50 Hybrid Composite Debt 50:50 Index. HSBC Mutual Fund said the AUM and folio figures are as of August 25, 2026, or the latest available data.
Fund Strategy and Management
RedHex combines investments across various asset classes to pursue risk-adjusted returns across market cycles. Its strategy seeks to deliver strong accrual potential with relatively low volatility through diversified allocation across asset classes. The fund is managed by a team of fund managers: Shriram Ramanathan handles the debt portion, including InvITs and REITs; Venugopal Manghat manages equity; Praveen Ayathan oversees arbitrage; and Mayank Chaturvedi handles foreign securities, as detailed by The Economic Times.
Executive Comments
Kailash Kulkarni, CEO of HSBC Mutual Fund, said, "Investor preferences are evolving, with a growing appetite for investment solutions that offer greater flexibility and diversification while retaining the transparency and discipline associated with mutual funds. This achievement of Rs 1,000 crore in AUM is a strong reflection of this evolving demand and the growing relevance of the SIF category. We believe solutions such as RedHex can play an important role in addressing the needs of investors seeking differentiated approaches to portfolio construction."
Shriram Ramanathan, CIO – Fixed Income at HSBC Mutual Fund, said the fund is built around disciplined portfolio construction with focus on asset allocation, credit selection, accrual potential, and risk management while keeping volatility low, and that crossing Rs 1,000 crore AUM demonstrates investor confidence.
SIF Category Context
The Rs 1,000-crore milestone comes as the SIF segment is still in its early stages in India. The category was introduced by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to allow asset managers to offer strategies with greater flexibility in portfolio construction than conventional mutual funds, while remaining within a mutual fund regulatory framework. SIF strategies can include features such as limited short exposure through derivatives and wider asset allocation, depending on the investment strategy and regulatory limits.
RedHex is one of the SIF strategies launched by asset managers since the category opened up. Its portfolio approach differs from conventional hybrid funds by combining fixed income with arbitrage and alternative asset exposures.
A Note on Performance
HSBC Mutual Fund clarified that the Rs 1,000-crore AUM reflects the assets accumulated by the scheme and should not be viewed as a measure of its investment performance. The fund's ability to generate returns and manage risk will become clearer as it builds a longer performance track record.
