Death and Inquest
Moses Mahgoub, a 34-year-old actor who appeared in several episodes of the BBC medical dramaHolby City, died on 2 February 2018 after falling from the balcony of his home in Westminster, London. At an inquest, Westminster Coroner Dr Shirley Radcliffe said Mahgoub was found outside his home in central London with a traumatic head injury. Coroner's officer Tracey Hull told the inquest: "He had a medical history of chronic depression since 2010. On 2 February at approximately 4.30am he was found on the ground outside his house."
The coroner recorded a verdict of suicide. The cause of death was given as multiple injuries, including bruising and a fracture to the skull. Both the Daily Star and the Daily Express reported that Mahgoub had blindfolded himself before the fall, a detail that has been reported by more than one outlet.
According to the inquest, police attempted CPR, but Mahgoub was pronounced dead at the scene. He was born in Khartoum, Sudan, in 1983 and was described as a freelance actor.
Tributes and Aftermath
Following his death, an episode ofHolby City was dedicated to Mahgoub. As the credits rolled, a banner appeared on screen reading "In Memory Of Moses Mahgoub." Rest in perfect peace buddy."
Akudolu, who has herself spoken about battling depression, discussed her own experiences after appearing onStrictly Come Dancing, where she described her "crushing" elimination from the competition and how it coincided with a "massive low" in her depression.
Viewers also shared messages of condolence on social media following the tribute episode. One viewer wrote: "RIP Moses Mahgoub, looked up who he was and what happened. Sorry to hear, mental health is serious, wish people realise the struggles, people committing suicide all the time."
