Himachal Pradesh to introduce three-time attendance in 150 CBSE schools, says CM Sukhu

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced on Tuesday that a three-time attendance system would be introduced in 150 CBSE government schools across the state. Speaking after chairing a meeting of the Education Department in Shimla, Sukhu said attendance would be recorded at three stages of the school day: morning arrival, during the lunch break, and at checkout.

Sukhu also said that separate dress codes would be prescribed for teachers and students in these schools. The teachers' dress code will become mandatory from October 1, 2026. To help teachers purchase the prescribed attire, the state government will provide a one-time special financial assistance of Rs 5,000, according to reports. A decision on the school uniform for students is expected within the next week, Sukhu said.

Teacher recruitment and funding

Sukhu informed that around 1,200 teachers had already been appointed in the CBSE schools, with more recruitments planned in the future. He reiterated the government's commitment to quality education, particularly for children in rural areas, ensuring access to education close to their homes.

The Chief Minister also announced an additional allocation of Rs 80 crore for improvements in the CBSE schools and for strengthening facilities available to students and teachers. He instructed the Education Department to ensure effective implementation of the measures and continuous improvement in the functioning and facilities of these schools.

The state government said the initiative is intended to create a better educational environment and ensure that students in rural areas receive quality education at their doorsteps.

Foundation stone for new school building

On August 29, Sukhu laid the foundation stone for a new building of Government Senior Secondary School, Nadaun, in Hamirpur district, as reported by Times Now. The new building will include six classrooms, seven laboratories, two staff rooms, a principal's office, an electrical room, an NSS room, a conference room, a library, a control room, a music room, a dance room, and an art room.

The announcements were made following a meeting of the Education Department chaired by the Chief Minister in Shimla, where these measures were discussed and formalized.
