Scorching start to the week
North Texas is set to endure another day of scorching heat on Monday, with temperatures expected to climb to 108 degrees in the Dallas area, according to The Dallas Morning News. The National Weather Service's Fort Worth office has an extreme heat warning in effect through Monday evening for North and Central Texas, the outlet reported.
Some areas could see temperatures reach as high as 110 degrees, with the heat index potentially making it feel as hot as 114 degrees, the newspaper reported. FOX 4 News similarly noted that temperatures could reach 110 degrees, with a heat index value up to 112 degrees.
Record-breaking heat continues
The heat comes on the heels of a record-breaking Sunday. According to The Dallas Morning News, DFW International Airport hit 109 degrees on Sunday. The outlet cited NBC5 in reporting that the previous record high for Sunday was 107 degrees set in 2010, and the record high for Monday, set in 2023, is also 107 degrees.
Forecast and safety guidance
The National Weather Service has urged people to limit outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day, typically between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and to drink plenty of water and spend time in the shade or air conditioning when possible, The Dallas Morning News reported. FOX 4 News also emphasized limiting time outdoors during those hours.
Week ahead: triple-digit highs persist
The dangerous heat is expected to continue through the week, with highs remaining in the triple digits, according to The Dallas Morning News. A weak cold front later in the week could bring increased cloud cover and low rain chances, but temperatures are expected to remain near 100 degrees.
FOX 4 News reported that high pressure to the west is bringing northwest flow disturbances over the next few days, keeping rain and storm chances low. A ridge of high pressure is expected to head eastward by the weekend, which will dry conditions out and keep triple-digit temperatures in place.
The Dallas Morning News also provided a detailed forecast for the week, showing highs ranging from 108 degrees on Monday to 100 degrees by Friday and Saturday.
Fire threat elevated
Breezy conditions are creating an elevated fire threat on Monday, according to both The Dallas Morning News and FOX 4 News. The weather service said the prolonged dry weather, including a lack of widespread rain for more than a month, lower humidity, and light winds, has elevated the fire threat, raising concerns about grass fires across the region.
