Kane voted Germany's Player of the Year
Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has been voted Germany's Player of the Year for 2026 by the Association of German Sports Journalists, with results announced by Kicker magazine on Sunday. Kane received 272 votes, comfortably ahead of teammate Michael Olise, who finished second with 203 votes.
Kane scored 61 goals across all competitions last season, helping Bayern defend its Bundesliga title and win the German Cup, including a hat trick in the cup final. He also helped Bayern win the new season's German Supercup with a 2-1 win at Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, though he didn't score in that game.
The England captain also had a strong World Cup with England, scoring six goals as the team reached the semifinals. He became England's all-time leading scorer at World Cups, taking his overall tournament tally to 14.
"It was the best season of my career so far," Kane said after winning the European Golden Shoe for the second time.
Bayern sporting director Max Eberl praised Kane, saying: "It's almost impossible to find the right superlatives to describe Harry Kane - sometimes I'm at a loss for words."
Kane is among the favourites for the 2026 Ballon d'Or, which will be awarded in London in October. If he wins, he will become the second English player to receive the honour while representing a German club, joining Kevin Keegan who won in 1978 and '79 while playing for Hamburg.
Kompany named Coach of the Year
Bayern boss Vincent Kompany was named Coach of the Year, receiving nearly half the votes. He guided Bayern to a league and cup double, with Freiburg's Julian Schuster, who won last year, finishing second.
Gwinn wins Women's Player of the Year
Giulia Gwinn was named Women's Player of the Year, receiving 106 votes to finish ahead of Bayern teammate Klara Bühl. This time Gwinn doesn't need to share it — last year, she and Germany teammate Ann-Katrin Berger received the same number of votes.
Gwinn and Bühl helped Bayern to a Bundesliga and German Cup double for the second year in a row last season. Bayern's Bundesliga title was its fourth straight, and the team reached the semifinals of the Women's Champions League.
"This is an honor and a validation of my journey," Gwinn said upon receiving the award.
Bayern makes history
Club President Herbert Hainer highlighted the significance of the sweep: "A Bayern double — never before have the men's and women's Player of the Year awards gone to the same club. Congratulations to Harry and Giulia, as well as our coach Vincent."
Kane and Kompany will be honoured on Friday at Bayern's Bundesliga opener against VfB Stuttgart at the Allianz Arena.
