'Haiwaan' First Song Out, Trailer Unveiled

The first song from the upcoming Hindi film 'Haiwaan', titled 'Mere Hero Hai Woh', has been released. The track, sung by Shaan and Vanika Nayak, features Saif Ali Khan and young actor Pahal Chaudhary, highlighting the bond between their characters. Composed by Pritam with lyrics by Javed Akhtar, the song is being distributed by Zee Music Company.

The song offers a softer look at the film, contrasting with the intense tone of the recently unveiled trailer. The trailer, shared by the makers on Tuesday, runs two minutes and 34 seconds and showcases the cat-and-mouse chase between Akshay Kumar, playing a psycho-serial killer, and Saif Ali Khan, a blind man who witnesses a murder. The caption accompanying the trailer read: "Andhere mein chhupa tha ek khauf. Aaj uska chehra saamne hai. Aur uske saamne khada hai, woh jo andheron mein hi jeeta hai. #Haiwaan Trailer Out Now. In cinemas on 11th September."

Cast and Crew

'Haiwaan' is directed by Priyadarshan and stars Saif Ali Khan as a visually impaired protagonist and Akshay Kumar as the antagonist. The cast also includes Shriya Pilgaonkar, Boman Irani, Shaarib Hashmi, Rajesh Sharma, and Saiyami Kher in pivotal roles. The film is produced by KVN Productions and Thespian Films, with Venkat K. Narayana and Shailaja Desai Fenn serving as joint producers.

The film marks the reunion of Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan on screen after 18 years, following their 2008 film 'Tashan'. It is an official remake of Priyadarshan's 2016 Malayalam film 'Oppam', which starred Mohanlal. Mohanlal is set to make a special cameo in the Hindi version.

Director's Revelation on Casting

In an interview with News18, Priyadarshan revealed that Akshay Kumar himself suggested playing the antagonist during the making of their previous collaboration, 'Bhooth Bangla'. The director initially did not take the proposal seriously, given Kumar's reputation for joking. "He has a habit of joking and pranking. So, when he said yes, I thought he was fooling me," Priyadarshan recalled. He ignored the suggestion until Kumar followed up later that day, prompting the director to ask if he was serious, to which Kumar said yes.

Priyadarshan also shared that Saif Ali Khan, who was already locked for the lead role, was skeptical about Kumar's interest. "When I told Saif that Akshay wants to play the antagonist, he didn't believe it. He thought I was joking. He wanted to meet Akshay and hear it from the horse's mouth," the director said.

The filmmaker noted that he had previously approached other actors, whom he described as "not as big as Akshay," for the villain's role, but they declined. "I had approached actors not as big as Akshay, who refused this role. It's their problem that they turned it down," he said, adding that he assumed Kumar would also reject the part.

Plot and Release

The plot of 'Haiwaan' centers on a visually impaired martial artist (Saif Ali Khan) who witnesses a murder and protects a young girl from a relentless and psychotic killer (Akshay Kumar). The film is scheduled for release in theatres on September 11, 2026.

Fans have responded positively to the trailer, with comments such as "@akshaykumar and his duality, loving the trailer sirrr," and "Akki as villain role pure Goosebumps." Another fan wrote, "Haiwaan Trailer looks like a dark, gripping and genuinely intense thriller. Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan are in a completely different zone, and the mysterious atmosphere, haunting BGM and powerful performances instantly grab attention. Priyadarshan seems to be bringing something fresh and unpredictable this time."
