Garvi Gujarat programme and development pitch

On the seventh day of his US visit, Patel called upon the Gujarati diaspora at the 'Garvi Gujarat Global New Jersey' programme to partner in the state's development journey, as per a release cited by ANI.

He also interacted with young entrepreneurs and representatives from various sectors at the Young CEO Meet, where discussions focused on Gujarat's development potential, investment opportunities, investor-friendly policies, and strong infrastructure. The Chief Minister highlighted the state's potential across new technologies, startups, fintech, digital economy, AI, data centres, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, and other emerging sectors, according to ANI.

Presenting Gujarat's development journey, Patel stated that the progress initiated during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's tenure as Chief Minister helped establish the state as a growth engine of the country. He added that when Modi became Chief Minister in 2001, the state faced several challenges, and efforts were made to address issues related to electricity, water, roads, and coastal areas, setting Gujarat on a new path of development.

Patel said Gujarat contributes approximately 8.2 per cent to India's GDP, despite accounting for around 6 per cent of the country's geographical area and about 5 per cent of its population. The state aims to increase this contribution to over 10 per cent by 2030.

He also outlined a roadmap to build a Viksit Gujarat by 2047, dividing the state into six zones with identified growth opportunities and long-term development targets. Work has begun to implement this roadmap, per ANI.

Highlighting GIFT City as an example of long-term vision, Patel said the idea to develop it as a global financial and fintech hub was envisioned during 2006-07, and it has since established a distinct identity globally, creating opportunities for Gujarat's youth.

Patel also noted that Gujarat introduced a Data Centre Policy and a new Industrial Policy for 'Viksit Gujarat-2026' to create a favourable environment for investment, industry, and employment. He cited figures showing MSMEs increased from around 1.85 lakh in 2001-02 to approximately 27.9 lakh today.

Gujarat accounts for about 17 per cent of the country's manufacturing output, around 27 per cent of exports, and roughly 40 per cent of cargo handling. The state contributes approximately 33 per cent of the chemical industry, about 30 per cent of the pharmaceutical sector, nearly 50 per cent of man-made fibre production, and around 65 per cent of denim production. It also accounts for about 19.2 per cent of pharmaceutical exports and around 80 per cent of diamond exports.

Patel said Gujarat has secured the top position in the State Startup Ranking for the past four years, and he invited Gujarati and Indian communities in the United States and Canada to visit Gujarat and explore investment opportunities.

The foundation for financial discipline and sound financial management was laid during Modi's tenure as Chief Minister, Patel added, according to ANI.
