Google is expanding its AI Mode travel capabilities, positioning the conversational search tool as a more active assistant in trip planning and booking. The company announced new features that let users track flight prices, book hotels, and view costs in points or miles, according to multiple reports.

Flight Price Tracking and Mileage Display

Users can now describe their travel plans, and AI Mode will display flight options with current prices from over 300 airlines and travel sites. For those hoping for a better deal, the tool can monitor fares and send email notifications when prices change for specific destinations and dates. This flight price tracking feature is available in more than 180 countries, though reports note it is not available in the European Economic Area, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway.

One notable addition is the ability to see mileage costs within AI Mode. A demonstration video shows a user asking for American Airlines AAdvantage mileage bookings on a round-trip from Atlanta to Miami, with results showing rates ranging from 22,500 to 26,000 miles plus $12 in taxes and fees. The feature initially supports Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines' Atmos Rewards, alongside American's AAdvantage program. Google has said that support for Air France-KLM's Flying Blue, LATAM Pass, and Lufthansa Group's Miles & More will arrive in the coming weeks.

Hotel Booking Integration

AI Mode now also facilitates hotel discovery and booking through conversation. Users can specify trip details and preferences to receive hotel options with reviews and key factors. Once a choice is made, they can ask AI Mode to help complete the reservation, selecting a 'Continue on Google' option that connects with integrated partners. The final steps—choosing a room, reviewing cancellation policies, and paying via Google Pay—are handled within the flow, with the hotel or booking platform responsible for customer service.

The hotel booking feature is rolling out in the U.S. in English, with initial partners including Booking.com, Choice Hotels International, Expedia, Hilton, Hotels.com, IHG, Marriott, Priceline, Trip.com, and Wyndham. Google has indicated that Accor and Hyatt will be added in the coming weeks. According to reports, the feature is only available in the U.S., with some functionality unavailable in the European Economic Area.

Availability and Considerations

While the updates broaden AI Mode's utility, some limitations exist. The mileage display is restricted to specific airlines at launch, and the hotel booking is currently U.S.-only. Reports also note that the return-on-miles comparison is not provided, leaving users to assess value independently. The exclusion of Delta Air Lines and United Airlines from the initial mileage partner list has been noted, though Google has not commented on future additions.

Google's move to integrate booking and price tracking into AI Mode marks a shift from simple search responses toward handling parts of the travel process directly. With the rollout starting now and expansion planned, the tool's practical impact will depend on how quickly partners and regions are added.
