Gold prices mixed across cities as Tanishq, Malabar, Joyalukkas update rates

Gold prices showed mixed movement across Indian cities as rates that had held steady on August 23 moved higher the following day, with leading jewellers updating their quotes for 22-karat and 24-karat gold.

On August 23, prices at leading jewellery retailers remained largely stable, with Joyalukkas and Malabar Gold & Diamonds both quoting ₹13,220 per gram across major Indian states, according to Business Today. Tanishq's 22K gold rate stood at ₹13,265 per gram. Malabar's 24-carat gold rate was ₹14,422 per gram, while Tanishq's corresponding rate was ₹14,460 per gram.

A day later, on August 24, The Economic Times reported a notable rise in 22k gold prices, with Tanishq pricing it at ₹15,075 per gram nationwide—up from ₹14,995 the previous day. Malabar Gold & Diamonds, Joyalukkas, and Kalyan Jewellers each quoted ₹15,030 per gram for 22k gold across New Delhi showrooms, up from ₹14,950 on August 22.

City-wise rates

City-wise data from The Economic Times showed consistent pricing across major metros on August 24, with Tanishq leading at ₹15,075 per gram and the other three brands at ₹15,030 per gram in Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai.

Business Today's city-wise table for August 23 showed 24K gold at ₹1,60,640 per 10 grams in Delhi, ₹1,60,490 in Mumbai and Kolkata, and ₹1,60,640 in Bengaluru and Chennai. The 22K rate stood at ₹1,47,260 in Delhi and Bengaluru, and ₹1,47,110 in Mumbai and Kolkata.

IBJA indicative rates

The India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA) provided indicative retail selling rates for gold jewellery on August 24 morning: Fine Gold (999) at ₹16,260 per gram, 22K at ₹15,870, 20K at ₹14,472, 18K at ₹13,171, and 14K at ₹10,488. Silver (999) was indicated at ₹2,46,333 per kg. For comparison, the association's August 21 afternoon rates were: Fine Gold (999) ₹16,062 per gram, 22K ₹15,677, 20K ₹14,295, 18K ₹13,010, 14K ₹10,360, and silver (999) ₹2,46,630 per kg, as reported by The Economic Times.

Market context and outlook

Business Today noted that market participants will continue to track global economic data, US interest rate expectations, and currency movements for further direction in precious metal prices. The report also carried a view from Vandana Bharti of SMC Global, who said gold may rally to ₹1.48 lakh in one to two weeks despite the recent correction. Additionally, six Sovereign Gold Bond series were noted as becoming eligible for early redemption in August, according to Business Today.
