GATE 2027 Registration Dates and Application Process
The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT Madras) will begin the online registration process for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 on August 27, 2026, as per the revised schedule. Candidates can apply through the official website gate2027.iitm.ac.in.
According to reports from India TV News and Times Now, the registration will close on August 27, 2026, for applications submitted without a late fee. Those applying after that date can do so until September 21, 2026, with the applicable late fee. The application correction window will be open from September 27 to September 30, 2026.
Candidates are advised to have a verified DigiLocker account, as their name will be verified with DigiLocker during the application process through the GOAPS portal. If there is any discrepancy, it can be corrected before applying or during the correction window, as per the rules.
The GATE 2027 examinations are scheduled for February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, and 21, 2027. Results are expected to be announced on March 19, 2027. The city allotment notification will be released on October 5, 2026, while the admit card download date is yet to be announced.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates currently in the third year or higher of an undergraduate degree program are eligible to apply. Those who have completed a degree in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts, or Humanities from a recognised institution are also eligible. Additionally, candidates who entered B.E. through a diploma and are in the third year or higher are also eligible.
Degree programs must be approved by the Ministry of Education (MoE), AICTE, UGC, UPSC, or their international equivalents. There is no age limit to appear for GATE 2027, and there is no restriction on the number of attempts. Candidates can choose up to two GATE 2027 papers from the prescribed combinations.
Application Fees and Documents Required
The application fee for female, SC, ST, and PwD candidates is Rs 1,000 per paper for regular registration and Rs 1,500 per paper for late registration. For all other candidates, the fee is Rs 2,000 per paper (regular) and Rs 2,500 per paper (late).
During the application process, candidates must upload a high-quality photograph and signature as per the specifications in the Information Brochure. Scanned copies of category (SC/ST) certificate, PwD certificate, and dyslexia certificate, if applicable, must also be uploaded. A valid photo ID (Aadhar-UID preferable, Passport, PAN Card, Voter ID, or Driving License) is required, and the original ID must be carried to the examination hall.

GATE is conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) on behalf of the National Coordination Board, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India. GATE scores are used for admission to postgraduate and doctoral programs with possible financial assistance in MoE-supported institutions, and several Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) use GATE scores for recruitment.
