Pre-Conference Workshop Highlights POCUS in Emergency Care

Fortis Hospital, Mulund, part of the IHH Healthcare multinational network, hosted the 11th edition of its "Point of Care Ultrasound in Emergency Medicine" (POCUS) workshop from July 24–26, 2026. Led by Dr Sandeep Gore, Director – Emergency Medicine at Fortis Hospital Mulund, the three-day programme was held as a pre-conference workshop ahead of the 28th National Conference on Emergency Medicine – EMCON 2026. As reported by ANI and The Tribune, the event brought together emergency physicians for structured academic learning, live demonstrations, and hands-on clinical training.

Programme Focus and Content

The workshop, now in its second decade, focused on strengthening the use of point-of-care ultrasound during initial assessment, resuscitation, and monitoring of critically ill and injured patients. Sessions combined classroom teaching, case-based discussion, and hands-on skill stations, covering both foundational and advanced applications, including E-FAST, cardiac and lung ultrasound, advanced echocardiography, resuscitative POCUS, transthoracic echocardiography, transcranial doppler, airway ultrasound, and common pitfalls in POCUS use.

The Tribune noted that the three-day programme strengthened practical competencies in bedside ultrasound, resuscitation, and emergency clinical decision-making.

Endorsements and Training Impact

Hosted in association with the Society for Emergency Medicine India (SEMI), the programme has emerged as India's most endorsed POCUS training in Emergency Medicine. It carries endorsements from the International Federation of Emergency Medicine (IFEM), SEMI, and the Association of Healthcare Providers India (AHPI), and awards CPD credit points from the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC). Over its ten-year run, the workshop has trained more than 450 emergency medicine doctors across India.

EMCON 2026 Preview

This year's two editions were conducted as pre-conference activities of EMCON 2026, scheduled to be held in Mumbai from October 30 to November 1, 2026. The conference is expected to draw more than 2,000 delegates, billed as India's largest international conference dedicated to emergency medicine. The workshop also previewed keynote addresses by the Presidents of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM), the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), IFEM, and the World Interactive Network Focused On Critical Ultrasound (WINFOCUS).

At the conclusion of the workshop, the official POCUS logo was unveiled. The ceremony was attended by Dr Srinath Kumar, Dr Sanjay Shah, Dr Hasmukh Ravat, Dr Bipin Daxini, Dr Kedar Toraskar, and Dr Shree Sowjanya Patibandla, President of SEMI.
