Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has detained a 55-year-old resident of Khabarovsk on suspicion of high treason, accusing him of passing information to New Zealand intelligence that could harm Russia’s security, according to the FSB’s Public Relations Center. The suspect has been placed in custody while a criminal case proceeds under Article 275 of the Russian Criminal Code.

An FSB operative, speaking in a video released by the agency, also alleged that the Five Eyes intelligence alliance—which encompasses around 20 intelligence agencies from the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand—actively encourages ordinary citizens to volunteer sensitive intelligence.
