Falcons Claim Three Players Off Waivers

The Atlanta Falcons added three players through the NFL waiver system on Monday, after teams trimmed their rosters to the 53-player limit. According to the transaction wire, Atlanta was awarded linebacker Yasir Abdullah from the Jacksonville Jaguars, linebacker Jared Ivey from the Seattle Seahawks, and offensive tackle Cameron Williams from the Philadelphia Eagles.

Player Backgrounds

Of the three, Abdullah has the most professional experience. He has appeared in 29 career games with three starts, including 10 contests for Jacksonville last season. Most of his playing time has come on special teams.

Ivey, listed at 6-foot-6 and 274 pounds, has appeared in two career games. Williams has appeared in one career game.

Ivey's Path to the NFL

Ivey's departure from Seattle marks the end of a journey that saw him beat the odds as an undrafted free agent. Seattle signed him out of Ole Miss in May 2025, and he earned a spot on the Seahawks' initial 53-man roster. He appeared in only two regular-season games during Seattle's Super Bowl-winning season and was inactive throughout the postseason.

Seattle head coach Mike Macdonald had high praise for Ivey during the offseason. After the Seahawks went through the 2026 NFL draft without selecting an edge rusher, Macdonald named Ivey among the young pass rushers the team was excited about.

"Jared Ivey is a guy that had a great, great season last year," Macdonald said in April. "He wasn't active as many days as he wanted."

Macdonald also cited Jamie Sheriff, Connor O'Toole, and Jalen Gaines, saying the Seahawks were "really excited" about that group and believed its members had prepared themselves to play if called upon.

Roster Competition in Seattle

Ivey's situation changed by the end of August. Seattle added veteran Dante Fowler Jr. in May, joining a group that already featured DeMarcus Lawrence, Uchenna Nwosu, and Derick Hall. O'Toole ultimately won the fifth outside linebacker spot on Seattle's initial roster.

The Seahawks waived Ivey on August 30 as part of a large group of moves to reach the 53-player limit, exposing him to waivers.

College Highlights

Ivey's most memorable college performance came against Georgia in November 2024, when he recorded seven tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble, and two pass breakups for Ole Miss.

Looking Ahead

The Falcons now add depth at linebacker and offensive tackle with these three claims. Abdullah and Ivey will bolster the linebacker corps, while Williams provides depth along the offensive line.

All three players will join Atlanta as the team prepares for the regular season following the roster reductions.
