Brantford Puppies Rescued After Being Abandoned; Rescue Seeks Bottle-Feeders
Eleven puppies, only one or two days old, were discovered abandoned in a cardboard box in Brantford, according to Hillside Kennels Animal Control. The organization, which works with the City of Brantford on animal welfare issues, said it picked up the dogs on Beach Road trail near the Echo Place neighbourhood around 10:30 Monday morning.
In a social media post, Hillside Kennels expressed outrage: “There is no excuse for dumping puppies.” They also voiced concern for the mother dog, saying, “We worry about the mom who may be worried where they have gone, or that she may have passed away.” The organization believes the puppies may be bully breed type dogs.
The puppies were transferred to Sato Saved End of the Line Dog Rescue and Rehabilitation, as they require specialized care, including bottle feeding, due to their young age. Sato Saved said in a post that the pups are a mastiff mix and that another rescue has stepped up to help care for the dogs. According to Sato, another rescue has offered to take three of the animals, leaving eight puppies in need of bottle feeding.
Sato Saved is now seeking fosters with experience in bottle feeding who live within 30 minutes of Brantford. All supplies will be provided. The rescue emphasized the demanding schedule: “The puppies will need to be fed every three hours for the next four weeks. If you can’t wake up overnight, don’t apply because it’s very important they are kept on a schedule.” The plan is to send the puppies out in groups of four, but as the post noted, “we don’t want to overwhelm anyone.”
Beyond foster homes, Sato Saved is also in need of formula, supplies, and funding for the pups. Those able to help are asked to email satosavedendoftheline@gmail.com. Hillside Kennels is asking anyone with information about who abandoned the puppies to contact provincial animal welfare services at 1-833-926-4625.
