Rob Kazinsky is returning to EastEnders as Sean Slater on a full-time basis, with the actor set to reprise the role in a new dramatic storyline, as reported by Digital Spy. The character, who first appeared in 2006, last appeared in a brief stint in 2022, but it has been 17 years since he was a permanent resident in Albert Square. Kazinsky's return comes with the promise of 'heartfelt chaos,' a phrase that has become synonymous with the character.
Speaking about his return, Kazinsky expressed his excitement, saying he 'can't wait to bring a new level of heartfelt chaos' to the show. He reflected on his journey, noting he left in 2008 as a young man and has spent years championing EastEnders, hoping to walk in Sean's shoes again. 'I'm home,' he said, 'and I can't wait to bring a new level of heartfelt chaos to Albert Square in the way only Sean Slater can.'
Ben Wadey, executive producer of EastEnders, welcomed the return, stating he is 'delighted to welcome Rob Kazinsky back to EastEnders' and highlighting that 'where Sean goes, drama is not far behind.' Digital Spy reports that the show is working with Samaritans on Sean's mental health storyline, ensuring the narrative handles sensitive themes carefully.
The Daily Star adds that the return comes 20 years after Sean first stepped foot in Walford, and hints at his character's evolution: 'I think Sean is one of those characters who just promises chaos and energy and unpredictability,' Wadey noted. He mentioned Sean's connections—having seen Amy as his child briefly, his checkered past with Max Branning, and his complicated relationship with Jack—making his return rife with potential for conflict and love.
Carter siblings return for Linda's exit
Lee and Nancy Carter are also returning to Walford, with Danny Hatchard and Maddy Hill reprising their roles for a storyline that marks the final months of their mother Linda's time on the show. Kellie Bright, who has played Linda for 13 years, announced her departure, saying 'now is the right time for me to say goodbye.'
Ben Wadey expressed his sadness at losing Bright, calling Linda Carter 'one of the all-time greatest EastEnders characters,' and emphasised the desire to see Linda at her best in her final months. Lee, who left in 2017 but appeared occasionally since, and Nancy, played by Hill until 2022, will return for the emotional arc.
Hatchard said he is 'absolutely over the moon' to return, while Hill said she is 'so excited' to step back into Nancy's shoes. Wadey guaranteed 'your jaws will drop when you see the first cliff-hanger,' promising a period of high drama for the Carter family.
Denise's battle and new family
Elsewhere, Denise Fox's battle with acute myeloid leukaemia and her search for a stem cell donor take centre stage, as reported by Northern Echo. The storyline introduces long-lost half-brother Darnell Larson Jr (Christopher Colquhoun) and his daughter Grace (Krysstina Frempong).
