Ducks to Retire Ryan Getzlaf's No. 15 in January Ceremony

Ceremony Set for Late January

The Anaheim Ducks will retire the number of longtime captain Ryan Getzlaf during a ceremony on Jan. 30, 2027, ahead of a home game against the Nashville Predators. Ducks owners Henry and Susan Samueli announced the honor on Tuesday, according to the Associated Press.

Getzlaf, who retired in April 2022 after a 17-year NHL career spent entirely in Anaheim, will see his No. 15 raised to the rafters at Honda Center. The number will be only the fourth retired by the Ducks, joining Teemu Selanne's 8, Paul Kariya's 9, and Scott Niedermayer's 27.

"Ryan Getzlaf's impact on the Ducks will be felt for generations to come," the Samuelis said in a statement, as reported by multiple outlets. "While no player in club history played more games or scored more points, it's his leadership, championship DNA and community contributions we will remember most. He's a legacy player who rightfully will have his jersey hung alongside Teemu Selanne, Paul Kariya and Scott Niedermayer at Honda Center."

Getzlaf expressed gratitude for the honor. "My family and I are so grateful to the Samuelis and the Ducks organization for this incredible honor," he said. "None of this would be possible without all the amazing teammates, coaches and support staff I had in my career. I thank them all and can't wait to celebrate in front of our great fans in January."

A Franchise Career

Getzlaf is the top scorer in Ducks history, recording 1,019 points in a franchise-record 1,157 games. He also holds the team's career record for assists with 737. TSN noted that he scored 282 goals during his career.

Getzlaf served as the Ducks' captain for his final 12 seasons, the longest tenure in team history. The Saskatchewan native was selected 19th overall by Anaheim in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

He helped the Ducks capture their first Stanley Cup championship in 2007, and also won Olympic gold medals with Canada in 2010 and 2014. The Associated Press noted that he was the runner-up for the Hart Trophy as the NHL MVP in 2014.

TSN also highlighted Getzlaf's international career, noting he helped Canada win gold at the U18 level, the World Juniors, the Olympics twice, and the World Cup of Hockey.

Celebration of 2007 Title Team

Two days before the number retirement ceremony, the Ducks will hold a 20-year reunion celebration for Getzlaf's 2007 Stanley Cup championship team during a game against the Chicago Blackhawks. That team included Getzlaf and Corey Perry, both of whom were drafted by Anaheim in the first round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
