Central Delhi Kings edge West Delhi Lions in high-scoring DPL contest
Central Delhi Kings held their nerve in a high-scoring Delhi Premier League (DPL) match on Saturday, defeating West Delhi Lions by 21 runs. The win came after the Kings posted a mammoth 232/8 in their 20 overs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, which is also slated to host a bilateral series between India and Afghanistan.
Batting first, the Kings were powered by a series of quick-fire knocks. Opener Siddharth Joon smashed 33 off just 17 balls, hitting two fours and four sixes. Samarth Seth then added 37 off 14 deliveries, with five fours and two sixes, before Money Grewal provided the final flourish with 42 off only 16 balls, including three fours and four sixes.
West Delhi's bowlers had little joy, though Manan Bhardwaj stood out by taking three wickets, albeit conceding 37 runs in his four overs.
West Delhi's spirited chase falls short
Chasing 233 for victory, West Delhi opened with a flying start, reaching 71/2 in just 4.5 overs. Their charge was briefly checked by the dismissal of Aaryavir Sehwag. However, Krish Yadav (46 in 26 balls, with seven fours and a six) and Ankit Kumar provided the guts of the counter-attack, sharing a valuable 59-run partnership for the fourth wicket that kept the Lions in the game.
Tejas Baroka broke the stand with the dismissal of Yadav, but Ankit Kumar continued with aggressive batting, eventually falling for 61 off 30 balls, with four boundaries and five sixes. The Lions couldn't keep up the pace in the final overs and finished on 211/8, 21 runs short of the target.
Bowling performances
For Central Delhi, Money Grewal, Tejas Baroka, and Keshav Dabbas each picked up two wickets. Baroka's dismissal of Krish Yadav was the pivotal moment in the chase, as Yadav and Kumar's partnership had threatened to upset the Kings.
With this result, Central Delhi Kings has already secured a place in the final four of the DPL, while West Delhi Lions remain out of the race.
