The U.S. Mint on Wednesday started selling $1 coins that feature President Donald Trump's face, according to Fox Business and HuffPost. The coins, priced significantly higher than their $1 face value, are being sold as collector's items.

A roll of 25 coins is priced at $61, while a bag of 100 coins costs $154.50, as reported by both outlets. The front of the coin features the word "LIBERTY" over Trump's likeness, with the years "1776 ~ 2026" below, and the words "IN GOD WE TRUST" appear next to his head, according to Fox Business. The "tails" side shows the Great Seal of the United States, with a bald eagle holding arrows in one claw and an olive branch in the other, as reported by HuffPost.

The coin was struck to honor 250 years of American heritage, according to the product page cited by Fox Business. The coins were minted at the Philadelphia Mint and have circulating finishes but have never been placed into circulation, though they may still be used as legal tender, the product page notes.

HuffPost reported that some special-issue coins marked "July 4" — the day they were struck — will be randomly hidden among the rolls and bags. Initially, each household can place only two orders until the cap lifts at 2 p.m. ET on Thursday, according to HuffPost.

The release comes under the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act of 2020, which allows commemorative $1 coins to be minted for one year as part of the semiquincentennial celebration, HuffPost reported.

Social Media Reactions

Despite the official purpose of celebrating America's 250th birthday, the coin has inspired a wave of snarky comments on social media, according to HuffPost. Many people expressed ridicule over the concept, with the outlet describing the reaction as a "windfall of ridicule." The snark appears to stem from the perception that the coin allows the president to indulge in putting his name and likeness on anything possible, as HuffPost noted.

Fox Business reported that the U.S. Mint announced the sale in a Wednesday morning post on X, saying: "Available for purchase today at 12PM ET: 2026 President Donald J. Trump $1 Coin. These coins are also in circulation, so check your pocket change. Collect them today!" Fox News Digital reached out to the White House on Wednesday for comment, according to Fox Business.
