A Three-Part Tribute

Netflix is set to release a three-part docuseries on the late Matthew Perry, titledThe One About Matthew Perry, on October 27, as reported by ANI and Vulture. The series will feature interviews with Perry's closest friends and family about his life and career, along with video archives from the Perry family, according to Vulture. Family Voices and Personal Memories

Perry's sister, Mia Perry Bowick, is a key voice in the series, according to ANI. Vulture reports that the series includes never-before-heard testimonies from Bowick. In a statement cited by Vulture, Bowick reflected on her brother: "It's taken time for me to feel ready to share these memories and what it was like to love Matthew through all the complexity of his life — to see him as a whole person, not just as Chandler, and not just as someone who struggled with addiction." She added, "As his sister, he shaped who I am today, the person I strive to be,and the work to which I've devoted my life. Matthew had a beautiful heart and a generous spirit, and even in his darkest moments,he could still make you laugh and feel loved. I hope this series gives everyone who loved him, whether personally or from afar,a deeper appreciation for who he truly was,and the legacy he leaves behind."

Director's Perspective

Mary Robertson, who will direct all three episodes, spoke about Perry's legacy in a statement carried by Vulture: "Matthew Perry was one of the comedic geniuses of our time. Through his many films, TV,and stage performances, and his unforgettable portrayal of Chandler Bing,he made millions of us laugh, connect, and feel a little less alone." She continued, "He also gave us so much more by bravely speaking about addiction. Yet the public only knew part of his story. That's why we set out to make this series:to let the people who knew and loved Matthew reveal the person behind the public figure."

The Series' Focus

According to a description from Netflix, as cited by ANI, the series "traces his journey from rising comedic star to the man the world still loves as their favourite Friend" while exploring "candid new details on his private struggles, honouring the legacy of honesty and advocacy he leaves behind." Vulture also reports the series will include new behind-the-scenes details about his personal life and private struggles.

Perry died on October 28,2023, from the acute effects of ketamine use at his home in Los Angeles,as reported by Vulture. All episodes of the docuseries will be available to stream on October 27,according to both sources.
