NDRF Search Underway After Teen Swept Away in Delhi Drain
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) launched a search and rescue operation on Sunday after a 15-year-old boy was swept away in an open drain in the Jasola area of Delhi, as reported by ANI and the Free Press Journal.
The boy's father, Avadhesh Kumar, told ANI that the family has lived in the colony for about five to six years. He said the boy fell into the drain at around 11:00 AM the previous day. Kumar described his son as being 14 to 15 years old and studying in the 8th standard at a local government school. He added that he was at work when the incident occurred and does not know how the boy fell.
Father Highlights Risks of Uncovered Drain
Kumar said the drain is completely open and uncovered, about 5 to 6 feet deep, with a strong water flow. He expressed grief over the lack of basic safety measures, saying, "Our child would definitely be with us if there were proper safety measures here."
"The drain is completely open, completely uncovered. It is about 5 to 6 feet deep, and the water flow is very strong," Kumar said, as quoted by ANI.
Rescue Efforts and Father's Concerns
According to Kumar, police arrived at around 12:00 or 12:30, followed by all teams, including NDRF and divers. However, he alleged that no one actually stepped inside the drain to search, and that no effective action was taken. He said, "If they had done it properly, at least our child's body would have been recovered. What more can I even say now."
Kumar pleaded with authorities to find his son's body, saying, "Just find my boy's body, that's all. We don't want anything else from the administration."
