Police in Dothan, Alabama, are searching for a woman wanted on felony animal cruelty charges after several dead cats and abandoned live animals were found inside a local grooming business.

Authorities identified 41-year-old Brandi Leann Tyrrell as the owner of JoJo’s LaundroMutt, where the discovery was made. Tyrrell faces two felony counts of first-degree cruelty to a cat and six counts of animal cruelty, according to Live 5 News WCSC, WEAU, and WIS10.

Dothan Animal Services officials were called to the business on Thursday after receiving reports of a strong odor. Surrounding businesses had also complained about the smell, prompting the response. Inside, officers found several dead cats alongside other live animals left in enclosures, police reported.

Investigators estimate the animals had been left unattended for about a month. The business had been operating without active utilities since June, and witnesses told police that Tyrrell had not been seen at the location for at least three weeks.

Police are actively searching for Tyrrell and have asked anyone with information on her whereabouts to contact the Dothan Police Department at 334-793-0215 or Crimestoppers 215-Stop at 334-215-STOP (7867).
