Arrest in Land Fraud Case Involving Deceased Estate
Detectives from Kenya's Land Fraud Investigations Unit (LFIU) have arrested a woman in connection with the alleged fraudulent acquisition of a parcel of land belonging to a deceased estate in Juja Farm. Agnes Wairimu Gachanja was taken into custody on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, in Ruiru, where she was attending a defence hearing for a separate land fraud case under investigation by the same unit.
The case was brought forward by two siblings who serve as co-administrators of their late father's estate following his death in 2008. During a search at the Thika Land Registry as part of the succession process, they discovered that a parcel of land measuring approximately 0.0825 hectares in Juja Farm had been transferred to an unknown individual without their knowledge or consent.
Investigation Uncovers Sale of Land
A thorough investigation by the LFIU revealed that the parcel of land had subsequently been sold for Sh800,000. Following the completion of the investigation, a duplicate police case file was submitted to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for review.
The ODPP reviewed the file and concurred with the investigating officer's recommendation that Gachanja face three charges: conspiracy to defraud, uttering false documents, and intermeddling with the property of a deceased person.
Court Appearance and DCI Statement
Gachanja has been processed and is scheduled to appear before the Ruiru Law Courts on Thursday, August 20, 2026, to face the charges.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) reiterated its commitment to pursuing individuals suspected of unlawfully seizing, transferring, or disposing of properties belonging to deceased estates, warning that those found guilty would be brought to justice.
