SEAL Team Finds New Life on Netflix

David Boreanaz's military drama SEAL Team has become one of the most-watched series on Netflix following its recent addition to the streaming platform. According to Screen Rant, the show currently ranks as the ninth most popular series on Netflix worldwide and the seventh most popular in the United States. Another Screen Rant report lists it at #9 on Netflix's U.S. streaming charts, though the exact ranking varies slightly between reports.

The series, created by Benjamin Cavell, premiered on CBS in 2017 and ran for seven seasons before concluding in October 2024, with a total of 114 episodes. It stars Boreanaz as Jason Hayes, the leader of Bravo Team, an elite Navy SEAL unit. The cast also includes Max Thieriot, A.J. Buckley, Neil Brown Jr., Jessica Paré, Toni Trucks, and Justin Melnick, among others.

SEAL Team has earned a Rotten Tomatoes audience score of 84%, as reported by Screen Rant, and has been recognized with a 'This Is Our Six' certification from members of the U.S. military. The show's executive producer, Mark Owen, is a former DEVGRU operator who played a role in the capture of Osama bin Laden, lending the series a degree of authenticity.

A Career-Defining Role

Screen Rant's coverage describes SEAL Team as Boreanaz's most significant role since Bones, which ran for 12 seasons from 2005 to 2017. The outlet notes that Boreanaz's portrayal of Jason Hayes combines tactical brilliance with emotional vulnerability, embodying the psychological toll of special operations. The series was unable to continue for an eighth season once Boreanaz decided to leave, according to the report.

Boreanaz's career has spanned nearly three decades, with earlier roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spinoff Angel. He also starred as Seeley Booth in Bones, a role that cemented his status as a TV staple. Screen Rant reports that Boreanaz has expressed interest in a Bones revival.

The Rockford Files Reboot

Looking ahead, Boreanaz is set to star in NBC's reboot of The Rockford Files, playing the titular private investigator Jim Rockford. The series is scheduled to premiere in January 2027, according to CinemaBlend and Screen Rant. The original series starred James Garner for six seasons in the 1970s.

CinemaBlend highlights a personal connection to the role: Boreanaz's mother reportedly told him during his time on Bones that he would one day do something similar to James Garner. Boreanaz shared this anecdote with Parade, noting that his mother had an inkling over two decades ago. He reflected on his career, suggesting that Bones and SEAL Team were stepping stones toward The Rockford Files, and credited his mother for what he called 'the power of manifestation.'

A Return to Television

Boreanaz's return to television comes two years after SEAL Team concluded. The Rockford Files will also star Michaela McManus, Jacki Weaver, and Felix Solis, as well as Jaden Boreanaz, Kirk Bovill, and Carson Rowland, according to Screen Rant.

As SEAL Team continues to attract viewers on Netflix, Boreanaz's next chapter is already taking shape, with The Rockford Files poised to add another notable role to his extensive resume.
