Wildfires flare across Wales
Firefighters are tackling a blaze on Rhiw Mountain on the Llŷn Peninsula in Gwynedd, as multiple wildfires have been reported across Wales, according to reports from the Daily Post and South Wales Echo.
The Rhiw Mountain fire, which is currently being tackled by crews, is the second wildfire in North Wales following an overnight incident in Denbighshire. Residents in Gwyddelwern, near Corwen, were advised to close their windows after a nearby grass and woodland fire, as reported by both outlets.
A spokesperson for North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “We would like to reassure the local community that firefighters are currently in attendance. Members of the public are advised to stay away from the area until further notice.”
Widespread fires reported across the nation
Beyond North Wales, several major fires have been reported by members of the public in Swansea, Pembrokeshire, Gwynedd and in the Bannau Brychieniog and national park, according to the South Wales Echo. Among these, a significant fire in Mayhill, Swansea, was reported around 8pm on Sunday, August 23, visible from Altitude28 Restaurant at the Maritime Quarter.
The South Wales Echo also reported fires on the moors between Ebbw Vale and Crickhowell, and a field fire approximately 1.2km north of Mathry in Pembrokeshire, with smoke billowing across the surrounding rural land.
WalesOnline reached out to Mid and West Wales Fire Service and South Wales Fire Service for comment on the reported incidents, according to that outlet.

In North Wales, the fire service has confirmed crews were dealing with the Rhiw Mountain blaze. The spokesperson’s advice applies to the local community and the public: stay away from the area until further notice.
